How about spending Sunday afternoon between mourning church services and evening services at the drug store. As a teenager we wanted something to pass the time. Because of "blue laws" all stores were closed on Sunday's except the drug stores.

Anybody else remember the X-Ray machine (fluoroscope) at the shoe store???? You'd put your new shoes on then check to make sure your toes were not to cramped. That was probably in the mid to late 40's.

How about the first trip to the dentist and the drilling machine that was a series of small pulleys driven with a bunch of belts. It drilled so very slow and was an awful experience. Same time frame.

Then there was the, "Huckster". He'd show up at the house, in the country with a small truck piled with farm/garden fresh produce. Mid 40's time frame.

How about the, "Fuller Brush" salesman???

The one thing left out in "Mom's Clothesline post" was cloth diapers. Some of you will remember that your mom had to scrape the mushey crap off the diapers and wash them.
Something that only a MOM could do.

Tejay,
Not only do I remember Fuller Brush, that was my very first job. I went with the Fuller brush salesman (on Saturdays) and would run from the car up to the door to deliver the lady's order.
And I made BIG bucks------ two, and sometimes three dollars for the day.

  • You confuse having a clear conscience with a bad memory.

Send a message via AIM to DonaandDon
You go to the drugstore for ibuporphen and antacia, not condoms and pregnancy test.

Do you think us old folks should consider this?

You wonder how you could be over the hill when you don't even remember being on top of it.

You know your WIFEY is old when you catch her laughing all by herself, and you discover she had been preparing our taxes, and had been using the calculator on her cell phone. Then, while trying to make a phone call on the same cell phone a bit later, she entered the phone number into the calculator instead!

You know that you are BOTH old when together, you laugh so hard about this silly incident that you both cry, then your bodies make strange noises.

It is OK to laugh! We know you are not laughing at us, but rather laughing with us.
