Two longs and two shorts here--to make a call you had to ask the two olds ladies that we talking on there if you could make a call. They always let us but never would hang up. They just listen. After you made your call you could stay on there & they start talking again. Never ring each other!!

Did that make your party position #7? I spent a couple of years converting 8 party to 4 party lines. After conversion you only heard your own ring. In the old mechanical offices in order to call another party you had to dial a ring code then hang up. Both lines would ring then you picked up to talk when it stopped ringing because your neighbor picked up his receiver.

Always a nice trouble call when someone left the receiver off hook (ROH) by mistake and after figuring out who just go ask them to hang up.

You might be really old if your remember trousers (pants to you young guys) where the belt loops were actually waste high and belt easily held up the trousers.
