There are at least three of us. Didn't have electricity until about eight, no phone until teenager hung milk in the well, butchered two hogs every fall. I still have the old cream separator but not the lard press. Cut stave bolts, to sell for making whiskey barrels, and poles for heating and cooking wood with a cross cut saw. Too bad we didn't keep all the old stuff. Being the only Son was a b---- at least I thought so then!

It may have been mentioned in a previous response but with my memory ??? Remember the nylons with the seams down the back the ladies wore? Some ladies had a hard time keeping them straight, as I rmember it.

I lived way out in the country until I was 10 years old. We never went to town (about 15 miles) except on Saturday. A school bus came through the community on Saturday morning and took all the kids (and anybody else that wanted to go) into town. We all went to the movie theater to see Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, The Lone Ranger, and many other western "good guys in white hats". The movie was 10 cents, popcorn 5 cents, and a soda 5 cents. Late Saturday afternoon we would all load up in the school bus to be delivered back home.

Being a Crossing Guard in the sixth grade. Can you imagine a sixth grader today entrusted with that task. They can't even be trusted with hanging up the "No Gun Zone" signs. BOO

Walking to school uphill both ways, killed a baar with my notebook. Oops got carried away there. But we did walk out the dirt road to meet the school bus less than a mile but when your six it seemed like a long way, when the snow got deep enough my older brothers would harness a horse to the bobsled and we would ride to the bus stop when we saw the bus coming we turned the horse around and sent him back home, the ride was only good for one way.

We lived in Rural West Virginia, on a school bus route. I was 6, my big brother was 8. If we missed the bus, He would hitch-hike, with a stranger, me in tow--and--get to school before the bus, because of the shorter route. This happened several times in that year we bus rode. Our world was better in the early 50's.
