We just completed our drive from Anchorage, Alaska to Denver. Left August 10, arrived last night, August 30. We took our time and had a wonderful trip. Cracked windshield is the only problem we had.
Alcan is in fairly good shape, some real rough parts but really not bad. First time for me in a MH, been by car serveral times. Friendly people all the way, good territorial and provincial camp grounds. Did not try private on that section at all and only a couple places overall on the whole trip.
Yukon territorial camps provide free wood. BC charged for theirs. Pretty level spots each night, some adjusting at times but pretty darn good.
Went through Jasper and Banff parks on the way down. Then
Glacier, Yellowstone, Devil's Tower, Deadwood, Rushmore, Wind Cave, Crazy Horse, and Badlands.
The two private cg we stayed at we Holy Smokes in Keystone, SD. Not bad. Water, sewer, electric, cable, fairly level. Small but quiet, even though it was right beside the road. We were down a steep embankment and that helped deaden the sound. The other one we stayed at was in Lusk, Wy. BJs. Small but well kept. No trees but level gravel pads with covered picnic tables at each lot. Bathrooms and I think showers, we did not need either. Full hookup like the other one. Very nice lady there.
Last stop was Rocky Mountain National Park. Then the Bud Tour in Ft Collins and on to our son's house outside Denver.
Again, great time. The parks were wonderful, not too crowded. Yellowstone was most crowded but it is so big you really don't notice it much except with an animal jam. Had a few of them.
Flying home next week. Putting RV in storage for a few months then flying back down to continue on. Will do it a month or so at a time. Sure hate that it is over!

Bruce & Franny:
Say,....read your post about your trip from Anchorage to Denver and noticed that you stayed at a campground named "BJ's" in Lusk, WY. We're just kinda of curious whether you might have driven from the Black Hills down to Lusk via Rt. 18/85 coming into Lusk from the North? If so, did you run into any construction on the section just above Lusk?
We're heading South out of the Hills around Sept. 20th on down through Denver and into New Mexico, and in the new 2011 Rand McNally road atlas we just picked up here near Rapid City, that section of 18/85 above Lusk is highlighted in light green supposedly indicating "Construction Zone."
Now a construction zone doesn't bother us, but we're just curious what you guys might have run into if you did run that route into Lusk. Would appreciate any comments ya might have.
Thank you.
Steve & Lynette

We did come down that way. I don't remember any major construction, maybe some small parts. Overall a good road and able to travel at speed. We crossed over to 25 as soon as we could after that then down to Cheyenne.

Thanks! We'll likely hop onto I-25 in the same (Lusk) area and head her South!

WOW!
BJ's campground in Lusk, WY! That's an "off the beaten track" sort of place. We stayed there in August '03. $19.47 a night! A unique CG the way it is situated - sorta right in the little town of Lusk.
Enjoy your travels!

Hey!, Ding-a-ling:
Ain't LUSK the "garden spot" of the U.S.??? Last time through we pulled into a kind of little mom & pop park behind someone's house on the West side of Lusk. Met a wonderful old "poet" and..watched the 'antelope play' on the prairie RIGHT behind this little park. At least we THINK it was a park. It sort of had marked spaces although NO ONE was home and ya just sort of left a little fee in a shoe box or can at the doorstep of the house. It was a GREAT experience we often recall. Haven't tried this "BJ's" yet, but might. Good travels!
