My Scout troop is doing a backpack overnight on the Appalachian Trail from Tuxedo, NY to Greenwood Lake, NY (about 13 miles).
The first hill we go up is called 'Agony Grind' which is pretty much a cliff face. The rest of the first days' 9.9 miles is up and down, up and down.
Will spend Saturday night in my trusty tent thinking about the Sleepnumber bed I have in my Winnebago!
We are going to Philmont, NM in 2011 and this is our first training hike.

RVThere, Congratulations! We need more folks like you to carry Scouting forward. I'm sure that you and the Scouts will have a good time on the hike. One of our Admins here Hitchhiker was a Scoutmaster for quite a few years.

I was a Scout as a kid, and a Scoutmaster of a "Special Needs" troop at one point (talk about some hard working kids!!). In recent years we have done one "campout" a year with our grandson's Cub Pack (in our MH). This year he is a Boy Scout and his dad is the Scoutmaster ...they invited us along but there isn't an RV hookup within 20-30 miles of their location so we decide to pass ...RHIP, and age too . Enjoy the "Agony" ...lots of great memories to be made there...
