We are going to a Michigan State Campout a little bit north in Gladwin. Then hanging around in the Mackinac area, and down to Ohio for a campout the next weekend.

Hi from Mitchell, South Dakota. Noticed your posts regarding Michigan routes and since we're heading from Minneapolis over to take the Mackinac bridge South and migrating on to Florida, and although we've driven this route before, we've never driven route 23 from the South end of the bridge, along Lake Huron, down toward Frankenmuth area.

How's this route for scenery and campgrounds? (45' MH w. tow).

Thought I'd ask since you folks seem to know the Michigan area.

Thanks.

Steve & Lynette

Generally a good road haven't driven it in 3 years. Lots of water side driving and some pretty big hills in the northern part but not mountains. Lots of places to stop and see on the way Frankenmuth can take as many days as you want there depending on whats going on and how busy it is(grew up there). Big ,say HUGE outlet mall at the Birch Run exit south of town. Nice miniature train ride at the Bridgeport exit where you would be getting off headed south. Lots of fishing antques and anything else you can imagine. Stop at the Jerkey Outlet AuGres I-75 exit 202. Dand thaats north of where you get on but there's another just north of Bay City. Lots of good stuff not to mention cheese and wine

I am currently parked at the Outdoor Adventure membership park in Davison (really Richfield Twp) which is just a few miles SOUTH of Frankmuth, or even fewer miles East of Flint about 3 miles north of I-69 on Irish road.

Of course I'm a mile from the gate at 5mph.

Cool here today,, Widget says 58, low was in the mid 40's last night.

Should be a great trip! You have a larger rig. Can recommend the Oscoda KOA as they just finished putting in brand new full hookup sites in the woods where it used to be rustic sites. We also like Hoeft State Park near Rogers City but I don't know if you can fit your rig in there easily. Both of these are in the northern area of Lake Huron. The midnrreservations.com site could definitely help out with the state park accomodations. My sis has a lake home on Lake Huron north of Alpena and we get up there a couple of times a year. Some really nice stretches. I wish you safe travels.

The sunrise side of Mi is less developed for coaches than the sunset side, but that being said, we have never had issues finding places to stay and we are 60 feet overall with coach and toad. Beautiful scenery along the lake as 23 parallels the lake for many miles in the Rogers City, Alpena, Oscoda area. The county park on Long Lake North of Alpena makes a nice stopover, In East Tawas, Tawas Point State Park is nice. After there, you are back on the freeway and heading south.

If you really really like to eat there's Tonys at the Birch Run exit. Great food and LOTS of it. 2-3 business west of the expressway on the north side. A side of bacon is 1 pound. Hot beef sandwich is for 2 maybe 3 people but GOOOOD!

If you want a neat experience, try the Legs Inn. A really neat Polish themed restaurant overlooking lake Michigan on M119. 22 miles southwest of the Mackinaw bridge, and well worth the trip. Legs Inn - Cross Village, Michigan
