Having been a card carrying KOA member for several years, I have observed what I feel is a serious lack of quality versus's prices being charged at their campgrounds. To may other private CG's are available with better quality/lower prices. What a shame as KOA used to be pretty good. We most likely will not renew our KOA card when it comes due this time.

I have observed personally that the "quality" of the KOA camp is directly proportional to the closeness of high head count tourist traps ..
This one is a good one IMO ..
Is a shame tho' as you are correct I believe ..

I avoid KOA's if it's at all possible, they are too pricey for my wallet for what you get and most aren't any better than a mom and pop campground costing much less.

I have to agree with all of your comments, and welcome to corporate america. Just about anything you do today cost's way more than it used too. This KOA in P/F is a nice place, a little crowded, and definately over priced. Case in point......We are regulars @Oceanlakes (myrtle bch.) go in May, during Bike week every year before rates go up, and decided to return after L.day this year. Rates are now around $60.00 oceanfront, the day after L.day, half price. What does that say, SUPPLY & DEMAND. We enjoy it there, finest security, clean, friendly staff, and you have to make reservations @ least a year in advance, or your out of luck. It's the price you pay to enjoy your RV. Have a good L.day everyone.

We have stayed in a few "Mom and Pop" campgrounds. You get what you pay for. We have found the most do not have sufficient facilities for a Class A. Ours is only 37' and we have had problems. One of the problems has been faulty 50 Amp service in the smaller independent parks. We have a had few bummer KOAs, but we know what to expect when we arrive at one.

I used to be a card carrying koa member until i stayed at one in florida that charged $60 and it was not very nice. This year, on our trip to canada and back, we stayed at two koas. The first one was near halifax, nova scotia. It was ok but definitely not a 10. The roads were limestone that had a lot of pot holes. We stayed there because it was the only one in the area not full. The other one was near portland, maine and we stayed there because it was the only one near and we got off the ferry at 9:30 pm. The both charged over $60. I know there are a lot mom and pop cg that are not that fancy, but they do not charge $60.
The best mom and pop we stayed at was on the way back in tennessee. I think it was pond side rv at exit 36, baileytown exit on i 81. This small campground was neatly groomed and everything was in great shape. The owner even helps you hook up !!!!!

We've never camped at a KOA so I can't comment. If you want to return to Pigeon Forge in the future check Creekside. It is well kept and clean.

There is no reason to be charging $60 a night for a parking place. "justimagination" mentioned about Myrtle Beach CG's charging $60+ a night in the summer. Because of a school age child in school, August is when we used to go. We used to go every 3rd year, but it has been 6 years since we have gone mainly because of the price. We like to stay 7 - 10 nights. With the Carolina schools going back to school by early August, the CG is empty during the week in mid August. It's just price gouging...."They got it - You want it - You will pay". I go elsewhere......

I have been a KOA card holder for several years but will probably not renew next spring when due. I also agree that the biggest number of KOA's are way over priced considering the availability of other much nicer CG's for less.
