I just love to camp in the fall. There are no crowded CG and no bugs, nice crisp air to breathe. So what if you have to put a jacket on, it's a lot easier than trying to take more off when it's really hot. Here's a PIC from the window the view I had this weekend.

I agree, unfortunately most of the relatively local campgrounds we like are closed for the season.

That's what we found when we took a trip last year to do a bit of leaf peeping. You better be out of Dodge by October 15 or you'll have no place to stay. We headed south after seeing New England toward Florida and down south there was no prblems with Campground. We did tour the Okeefenokee (sp) Swamp. That was a great stop.

My favorite time of the year to camp.

The leaves are starting to change in NC and in some parts it is impossible to get a CG. A small group of us are going to Asheboro this weekend and the place will be full. But can't wait to see the colorful scenery and sit by a campfire with new friends. Love the fall.

It's our fav time too. A campfire in summer just isn't the same when it's 85-degrees out at 9PM. In the fall it's delightful: crisp nights, a mug of hot choc laced w/Bailey's & a blanket wrapped around my legs. Trees turning colors, bright blue skies. Ahhhhh!

A couple of our fall fav's, Shawnee SP & Raccoon Creek SP, both in PA:

I couldn't imagine camping in weather like that. I can only imagine how miserable it has to be.

Your fall is our summer in the rockies, sans the trees turning colors. And, great call on the adult hot chocolate.

seeing these pictures and reading the replies is like a warm fire in my heart. when we lived in NY we spent many a fall weekend in the Hudson Valley, Catskills, and areas around Lake George. Its just as beautiful here in NC with the Smokeys. Going with friends to the Shenadoah valley soon and rekindle those flames.

I camp fall, winter, and spring in GA. This year I'm hoping to head west in the spring, again. As far as a campfire--we've enjoyed them when the temps are in the teens. A camping friend made a great suggestion. Buy a reflective sun visor for your car windshield and put it on your chair with the reflective side facing the fire. Keeps you warm and toasty and I recommend the Sherpa hats!
