Need some help for a trip to Olympic National Park

We are planning a trip to Olympic National Park in early September. Have been searching forums for information (we are totally unfamiliar with the area) and have found a few recommendations for things to see: Hoh Rain Forest; Sol Duc Falls; and Salmon Cascades so far.

However, can't find any info on good places to stay. We would like a nice RV park with full hookups (both seniors with a few minor handicaps who are getting to old for primitive camping and strenuous hiking). We have a 36' motorhome and a tow car for touring.

We would appreciate any help anyone can give us re. good RV parks to stay at and any other "must see" attractions besides those listed.

I am probably the best resource but since no one has answered today I will throw out my two cents worth. I am not sure what interests you but if it were my trip I would base camp somewhere around either Sequim or Port Angeles. I really can't recommend a good rv park since we are ROD members and stay at the The KM Resorts park in Sequim. I believe you can get 2 nights/3 days free camping if you agree to take the tour but that would be up to you. You can also camp for free at 7 Ceders Casino. While in the area you need to go to Hurricane Ridge but do not take your RV.
From that area take 101 over to Lake Crescent. There are several campgrounds in this area. We have followed 101 all the way down to Hoquiam then camped in the Ocean Shores area which is very nice. What ever you do have a great trip; September can be one of the best times for that area.

On the way to the the park ,if your coming from the east try to spend a little time at Fort Flagler state park or Fort Warden St Pk.Both are a quick drive from Port Townsend [a real artsy craftsy place].You may need to call ahead for resv.We like Flagler the best beacause of the open spaces on the lower campground and the 180degree view of the water and mountains will knock your socks off.Going West from Sequim there's a KoA between sequim and Pt Angeles.Again,if it's a clear day drive your car up to Hurricain Ridge.

The State Park at Sequim is fine. Good hot showers, easy access to everytning on the peninsula, access to the water, and quiet. Good price too.

We visited Olympic last year. Great trip. We went up the western side of the peninsula and stayed at Forks 101 RV Park. We visited Cape Flattery, Hoh Rain Forest, Rialto Beach, and Ruby Beach (there are also more beaches). We then drove up to the northern side of the peninsula where we stayed at Salt Creek Recreation Area. On the northern side we visited Hurricane Ridge, Sol Duc, and we took a day trip to Victoria, Canada to see Butchart Gardens. We've visited a lot of gardens, and Butchart is the most spectacular we've seen.

Very little to do with the question, however if you follow Paz's advice to take the ferry to Victoria (good advice) make sure you have your passports along.

Since I live around 5 miles from the Salt Creek Clallam County RV Park, I am a bit predjuice. One of the little known gems on the OlyPen. Knockout views of the Strait (right at the narrowest point between Vancouver Island & US Mainland), reasonable price (!!!!), and accessible to a lot of destinations. Go east off of US 101 out of Port Angeles, then onto State hwy 112 (Seiku Sign) for around 14 miles, then on to Camp Hayden Road (northbound) to the park. If it is full, go about another quarter of a mile and there is a Private RV Park right on the beach. Do NOT proceed further with a motorhome, the road is very narrow & twisty going to Joyce, Wa.

The Salt Creek Clallam County Park IS a hidden gem as stated above. Really spectacular scenery...but beware...if you use a cellular device for phone or Internet access you will roam over to Canada and it can be very $$$ depending on your cellular plan...DAMHIKT !!!!

Oooops forgot to warn yah, sorry. I finally got AT&T Wireless to block international roaming on their end and that was a pain. I internationally roam everywhere at home here (Freshwater Bay) except at the beginning of my driveway (south end on my slice of heaven), or all the way down at the Freshwater Bay boat ramp which has a clear line of line to the AT&T Tower on the Elwha Point. The sad thing is, our US Goobermint refuses to kick the Canadians in their NAFTA backside regarding (per treaty) the strength/interference of the Canadian Cell Towers (Sooke/Beachy Point Vancouver Island). Same goes for their constant dumping of RAW Sewage into the Strait, another clear violation of the NAFTA Worthless Treaty.

Had to cancel the trip due to mechanical difficulties. I have filed all the info I received to make the trip next year. Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for information.
