Start of week three in Mexico
No, no banditos, no morbidas, no muggings, just super friendly people, huge smiles and waves. Currently north of Chetumal on the bay, have already been to the beaches of Oxaca, where we had a new front seal put in the tranny (fixed perfect - $400 bucks including overnight of the part from Mexico City and generous propinas!). Lost the patio awning to the winds on La Ventosa - driving at 40, winds sideways at 70+. Up to San Cristobal, on to Pelanque (no Mayan uprisings, machete pieces in the road, roadblocks, etc..). Down to Yaxchilan, way better than Pelanque! Then on to here. Headed to the beach to boondock for a while south of Majahual, the loop the Yucatan, back across Mexico north of Mexico City to the Pacific.
Our state department does a great job scareing people into believing Mexico is unsafe. Look around the US, its getting kind of crazy there... This is an amazing place.

Brownsville - Veteran's Bridge. Piece of cake.
North of Cancun now, still a perfect trip! Off to a cenote today ., then on to Merida tomorrow for a few days. Then back home over a couple weeks, either the coast or inland.

We're in our fourth month in Mexico this season (our 3rd year of spending winters in Mexico), and we're loving every minute of it.
Mexico is a beautiful country and Mexicans are wonderfully warm and friendly people. Living here makes you re-think the attitudes and lifestyles we all take for granted in the US and Canada. Mexicans seems truly happy with life, and I can't say the same about folks north of the border.
We are in Zihuatanejo now after three months in Huatulco. These are fabulous beach towns with sunny days, warm water, and incredible snorkeling (in Huatulco).
Last year we went to Palenque and San Cristobal and were totally enthralled by the Mayan ruins and history. Have a ball in Chiapas...!!
Anyone who has considered going to Mexico but is afraid -- come on down. It is truly wonderful!!! You can camp in an RV park between the high-end all-inclusive resorts in Huatulco, overlooking the golf course and just steps from a magnificent beach, for $8 a night...

You are so right about Mexico. We're in Venice FL now.. nice but not the same after spending three Winters thoughout Mexico clocking over 10K miles in Baja and most of Mexico for the next two years. Love the Mexican hospitality and the beautiful children. If you go towards Puerto Vallarta try El Refugio RV Park in Los de Marcos north of Purto Vallarta. You will love this small fishing village. Kudos to both of you. Enjoy the weather.

What!!! All these posts and not one gloom and doom merchant to spoil things by telling us about the gruesome fate that awaits us just around the corner.
We are at Zacatecas and if the trip so far is any indication, there just aren't any rigs from north of the border travelling around, especially in the interior. About a week since we saw a lone travel trailer and not a sign since.
Not complaining though. Nice to have the undivided attention of the staff of a 5-star hotel and not a single other RV in the place to compete with for the best spot.
Boondocked for more than half the nights so far and hope we can continue doing it.

Still... keep both eyes open, be vigilant when filling up at Pemex, be polite and respectful and act as a guess in a country that is very diversified. We mostly enjoyed the small villages where people seemed to be much happier. Enjoy the culture and the food!

Didn't head that way this trip - only saw a little of the Oxacan coast, then headed inland.
Back home now, never a single scary moment. Looking at maybe buying a property and building my own little rv park...
