1st Day: Today's goal was to get north of Atlanta (traffic was still terrible) so we would not have to deal with Monday rush hour and we made that goal. We did 462 miles today. Left storage at 8:00 AM and stopped for the night at the KOA near Cartersville, GA a bit after 5:00 PM. GPS says we averaged 49 mph. Not bad considering we normally cruise at 62-63 mph and stop every hour and a half or so to stretch our legs, walk the dog, etc. The temperature here is 75 F; very nice.

I noticed something a bit strange while I was hooking up the power and water —I happened to look at the clear sewer outlet on our trailer and it looks like it is full of something, yet both valves are closed. I will go to the dump in the morning and clear it and see if I can figure out what caused this. It's never happened before.

2017 Florida to Alaska Trip

Day 2, 6/26/2017: We left the campground at the KOA in Cartersville at 9:00 AM, after cleaning the problem mentioned above. I still don't know what caused it unless someone pranked us by opening and closing the black tank valve. I kept checking the clear plastic outlet every time we stopped today and it was empty. Anyway, we travelled 333 miles today and stopped at the Duck Creek RV Park around 3:15 PM. Cost $32.00 for the night for full hookups. This campground is just off I-24 at exit 11 at Paducah, KY. My wife picks our campsites and goes into the office and says the staff was very friendly. Gravel pads, full hookups and each site has a garbage can. Sites are not all that roomy. Our awning, fully opened is about 3' from our neighbor's motor home. The place is clean and neat.

Verizon -113 dbm , AT&T 2 bars

Today was a good drive, with low temperatures. BTW, when I got up this morning it was 57 F in the north Georgia mountains. Traffic was backed up and stop and go for a few miles in Nashville. Plentiful Flying J stations along the route—we try to drive on the top half of our truck's 36 gallon gas tank. We like Flying Js for a couple of reasons: 1) they typically have RV fuel lanes and 2) we are Elite Good Sam members and with the Pilot/Flying J RVPlus card we get a 7 cent per gallon discount on gas, plus they are usually clean and neat places. Looks like we may get a storm here this evening according to my radar apps. Temp here right now is 76 F.
P.S. My wife said the showers are very nice, a private suite, very clean and plenty of hot water. LOL

Yes, we are because we've been up and down this stretch of road so many times over the years visiting family in either IL or FL that we just want to get this part of the trip done. [emoji846]

Day 3, 6/27/17: We only had to cover about 200 miles today, so we just cruised along at 60 mph, with one stop to stretch our legs and one more at a Flying J for $51.00 worth of gas. Averaging a bit over 9 mpg towing our 2016 Keystone Bullet 269RLS with our 2013 F150 Platinum Screw 4x4 3.5 Ecoboost with Max Tow and 3.73 EL rear. It is pretty obvious that Illinois is in financial difficulty since the roads are pretty crappy. Before we left this morning I had to add some air to the trailer tires and wouldn't you know it, my 12vdc extension broke a internal wire connection and blew its fuse, so I had to repair it half way through airing up.
My wife picks our campgrounds and she called this morning to reserve a different site near Windsor, IL than we've stayed at before—the Sullivan Marina Campground on Lake Shelbyville. She booked it because it has a pool. Now me, I don't understand why a pool is so important to her since we have a pool at home, but oh well. So we rolled out at 10:30 this morning and got here around 3:00 PM. We get the campsite all set up and she puts on her bathing suit to go swimming in their pool, but when we get there we find out it is out of order. Now I have a upset wife. This does seem to be a common occurrence (advertised pools being out of order at campgrounds) for us. I suggested to her that if it's important to her, she should ask before she books. The staff is friendly and helpful, but this entire campground is mostly filled up by seasonal or permanent rigs; many do not even have license plates on them , but they are really nice trailers, 5ers and motor homes and mostly no one around. The weather is beautiful and the high today here was 75. The low tonight is supposed to be a bit under 60 F. We may move to another campground with a working pool or just stay two nights and head West to Denver. I will update again From the road.

This thread should get a lot more interesting after we head north from Denver to Canada and Alaska. So, please stay tuned.
