40' DSDP -first RV trip to TX - where to stay?
DH & I are going FT. We will be heading south early November for our first trip with our new DSDP 40'.
We were thinking of spending a month or two in TX. We like hills, lakes, hiking. Dislike desert & cities (for the most part).
Where would you suggest we go? Favorite places to stay with a big rig? Is anything "unsafe"?
TIA -

Lots of nice state parks, but they have a 2 week maximum stay and you have to move. Some state parks have full hookups with sewer, some no sewer.
Most easily accommodate a 40' RV.

For November you could probably still stay comfortably in the 'Hill Country' but it does get cold there later on so you might move further south. Rockport and Port Aransas are nice areas. We didn't like it any further in the so-called 'Valley'. The full winter in south Texas can be cold, rainy and windy at any time.
Everywhere is as safe as any other state/city.
You could break up your stay and test out different areas by moving over to southern Arizona for full sunshine every day!

Stayed at Buckhorn in Kerrville and loved it. Some sites do not have any shade, so be aware of that and perhaps try to get a shaded site, if they'll let you choose.

Check out the area around New Braunfels and Canyon Lake--the Lazy L&L CG on the Guadalupe river is a well-maintained, family-run, campground.....

Mid and North TX get cold in Winter. Nov should be good almost any place in TX. Your plan to move around is a good one as you are the only one who knows what really fits for you.

Check out Lake Brownwood, Brownwood, Texas. 69 miles east of Abilene, Texas. Lake Brownwood State Park would be good for a 2 week stay with the cooler spells for a change. You can always move on from there.

For a hill country destination, I would also put Fredericksberg on the list. We stayed at the Quiet Creek Rv Resort for a month and really enjoyed the park and the town. You can hike Enchanted Rock, take wine tours, find good eats, Nimitz Museum, and add a Garrison Brothers Distillery tour. All within a 30 drive from Quiet Creek.
