If anyone is ever in the area of the VA, NC, and TN borders you should check out the Virginia Creeper Trail. What a fun day for the family.

Thank you for posting this. I lived in Bristol when I was in college, and I go there from time to time to visit my parents. This trail did not exist at the time, at least not in its present form.

I will be headed there for a visit soon and will keep this in mind. I'm always looking for a trail to ride, and I think this may be a good one.

It is a really fun ride with beautiful scenery. If you want more of a challenge, I would try the whole trip from Abingdon the Damascus unless you want to ride "up" from Damascus to Whitetop

I have been on the creeper trail many times when in the Abingdon Virginia area. It is a great use of an abandoned railroad. Check out Rails-to-Trails Conservancy:: Creating a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines:: Building healthier places for healthier people. for similar trails across the country and while in Virginia if you are in the vicinity of Farmville, Virginia a new park, High Bridge, is also a wonderful trail.
