Kaibab National Forest - Boondocking - no Grand Canyon Park sites available. ***** You can't beat Mother Nature

Davis Lake National Forest Campground, Houlka, MS - ***** Mother nature again.

Our trip had a lot of highlights. One of the best days was when we rented a boat and toured Black Canyon from Willow Beach to the base of the Hoover Dam.

I loved our trip to the Pima Air Museum. This was the first time I'd seen a B-58 in anything but pictures.

They had some interesting homnebuilt planes.

As long as we are talking about machinery, I also got to tour the Red hill Coal Mine near Ackerman, MS. They have some BIG stuff.

A P & H 2800, 40 cubic yard, electric shovel uncovers the top seam of lignite.
The shovel loads the material into Caterpillar 785 and 789 off-highway end dump trucks.

A Marion 8200, 82 cubic yard dragline uncovers the fifth and sixth seams of lignite. The machine operates on 23,000 volts of electricity, weighs 8 million pounds, and has a boom that is 325 feet long and 175 feet high. Its base measures 65 feet in diameter, moves via walking shoes that are 13X65 feet, and walks 7 feet per step or 1/8th mile per hour. The dragline completes a digging cycle in one minute and has 7,500 horsepower.

A Huron Easi-Miner and the CAT 5230 excavators are used to load the lignite into end dump trucks.

Lignite is then delivered to a 400 ton capacity hopper. A crusher and conveyor crushes and transports the lignite to the power plant. All the coal mined here goes to the power plant located next to the mine.

As long as we are talking about machinery.... I was in Las Vegas when they held the Mint 400 Parade on Las Vegas Blvd.

This was my favorite spot in Vegas. I never tried the scale under the sign.

I love the Indian Art found in the southwest. I'd like to buy osme of it but I would have to go back to work. That's not going to happen.

I satisfy myself by taking pictures when I can.

This Indian Princess let me take her picture as long as I threw a couple of dollars in her tip basket.

If my wife and go back to the Vegas area, we plan to stay and play in Laughlin. What a great place to lose your money.

We spent some time in Los Cruces, NM. The KOA there is one of the best run campgrounds we have stayed at. The campground sits on a hill above Los Cruces. I took several pics but I just couldn't capture how good the view was.

We played in the old town - De Mesilla

The restaurant in the old Post Office in De Mesilla was the best one of the trip.
