Not sure what part of the Adirondacks you are looking at. We stayed at the KOA near Lake Placid and enjoyed that area. Lots of beautiful scenery. Touring the Olympic Training Center is interesting.

We stayed at the North Pole Resort in Wilmington, NY. Near White Face Mtn and about 30 min to Lake Placid. We stayed in the 100 Acre Woods section. Nothing fancy but good location for hiking and for touring Lake Placid.

If you are on the other side the Old Forge Camping Resort is the former KOA. Not bad but poor WiFi the last I knew.

You might want to keep Thornbush Acres in Indian Lake on your list. Not fancy some full Hook Up, some not, Electric and Wifi in the middle of the Park. That puts it way ahead of the state camp sites as they do not have power or WiFi.

The park is big enough and diverse enough to have a couple of targets to stop and explore from. Good museums in Blue Mountain Lake and Tupper Lake. International Olympic flavor in Placid.
