Hi all - new to the forum and we are on a 3 month trip from California - we have been through Texas, Alabama, Louisiania, etc. and are now in DeFuniak Springs, Florida and heading toward Jacksonville, Florida - we heading to Georgia and on eastward from there. Does anyone know of a good place to stop for a few days between DeFuniak Springs and Jacksonville, Florida or another place near there that would be fun or nice to see? Should have planned our trip better but have no real info on Florida places to visit on our route. Thanks for any info, Darlene

Hi Darlene,
Consider something a bit different than Jacksonville. How about St. Augustine? All the history you'll ever want in one place. There is Stage Coach CG at I95, exit 318 (904-824-2319). Camping World is at the same exit. A short drive to St. Augustine. Purchase a multi day trolley pass. See old St. Augustine, the fort, the town and the harbor all have tours or you can walk as much as you want. Great places to eat. Great place to learn about early life on the North American Continent and Florida. All this is about 50 miles south of Jacksonville. It will take several days to take it all in.

Thanks so much Richard and Gary for your replies - and Gary, thanks so very much, we are going to St. Augustine and very excited about all the things you mentioned - am going to check out the campground you suggested to see if they have space available. Thank you both so much for your reply and especially Gary for solving our trip problem.
Darlene

I'd suggest a stop at the World Golf Hall of Fame in St Aug,,if you have any interest at all in golf. Pro shop there also had some great specials on various types of casual apparel.
Onto to Ga, and a new and nice park, Coastal RV park in Brunswick GA. While there, I'd highly recommend Cumberland Island. It's a one of kind island and shouldnt be by- passed. A second day could be used to go to the Okefenokee Swamp where there is a very interesting wildlife center, good for both adults and children both.

If you going to St Augustine check out North Beach RV Park. Its a nice place and right across the street from the ocean. It also has two real good restaurants onsite. The wife and were just down there in March and really liked the place.
St. Augustine is the oldest city in the US and there are a lot of interesting things to see, Check out the Alligator Farm.
Downtown St. Augustine if you like Cajun food check out Harry's Seafood Bar and Grille the food was fantastic.
If you make it to see the Fountain of Youth, don't waste your time drinking the water from it,,, I drank a six pack of it and it didn't do any good plus it has a sulfur taste to it!
Anyway enjoy your trip!
