Advice: Sam Houston National Forest - Texas

We have decided to have our first camping/RVing adventure in 15 years.

Our daughter has to go to freshman camp for college about 4 hour drive from home.

DW and I have decided to rent a 12' flagstaff pop-up trailer from our local military base and take it for an adventure while daughter is at her camp for four days.

The camper is an aframe pop-up like the aliners.

So, we are looking at Sam Houston National Forest.

The camper has AC/heat, fridge, 2 burner stove, sink. NO TOILET / NO SHOWER.

We can get a camping spot with electric in that area for about $112 for 4 nights.

Now I'm trying to figure out what we will do while there - hiking? reading a book?

We will have our small dog with us as well.

Since I plan on full-timing when I retire in 9 years I would like this re-introduction to camping/RVing to be as positive as possible.

Any and all advice or comments accepted!

Things I should pack? smores!

Things I should try to do?

Things to avoid!
