Take the South entrance out of the park to Teton NP
Beautiful views and camping. Lots of wild life in the park and more in Jackson Hole. Follow the Snake River down canyon to Afton then to Evanston, WY. Then on to Salt Lake City. Pics are from Teton for an idea of the area.
Other options abound so if you'd like to go a more Northern or Southern route there are more suggestions available!

Craters of the Moon National Monument is worth the stop. Probably the best lave flows we have seen since Mt Eatna in Sicily, and they were fresh!

Do not know what your toad is but a stop in MOAB is an off road paradise. Even without an off road vehicle it would be worth seeing Arches national park. the Canyon Lands were just as majestic as the grand canyon and much more accessible. have fun, mark

Where to in California and do you want suggestions along a direct particular route or would you be up to exploring other areas? There are lots of options out there.

Just did that trip from Ystone to Placerville, CA in July.

1. Twin Falls, ID - sacred ground for any boy who grew up watching Evel Knievel in the 60's and 70's
2. Virginia City, NV - great western town. Must stop if you read Mark Twain's Roughing It
3. Carson City, NV - sore back? go to hot springs
4. Lake Tahoe - can't get enough of the beauty
