Thank for all the road side / traveling info.

Good to get first hand reports on road conditions. The part where people stated "slowed down to 10 or 15MPH" Was it because of pot holes, frost heaves or back -ups because flagmen.

Plan a 2016 or 17' trip to AK. Have flied up 5 or 6 times to Fairbanks including last Aug for 20 days. I found the roads better over-all than the roads here in NE. Ohio....no kidding...I few frost heaves west of Fairbanks, a construction zone (Nordale rd.) on the road between North Pole and Chena Hot Springs road with 15 minute waits between flagmen.

Superslif,
Between Beaver Creek and Destruction Bay, both in Yukon Territory, frost heaves will hold speeds down to that 10 to 15 mph range. Then you get a few hundred yards of good road, then BOOM, more frost heaves.

Any suggestions for July 4th? We are in Fairbanks now. Sunday we plan to drive to arctic circle and have to be at Denila on 6/18 - 6/20.

We did the trip last Sunday......bring plenty of bug spray. We got to cold foot, and a little beyond, and it started to rain, had to turn back cause the mud and frost heave made it almost impossible to go much further. In parts of the Dalton hwy becomes a one lane road, with you having to share with the big rigs......
We where trying to make it to Prudoe Bay.......not much wildlife along the way.

No suggestions for the Independence Day. As for driving north out of Fairbanks I'd suggest talking to the locals about current road conditions and what to expect. I've heard that is a long lonely road.

4th of July in Seward is always fun. Camped there from 2001 - 2011 and gonna be there this year. Fireworks, parade, and a foot race up and down mount marathon. Always a good time and occasionally a little rowdy.

We are still in Fairbanks at River's Edge. Can't miss us, first rig you see at the entrance just across from the office. Follow us at North to Alaska | Our retirement journey begins

Very nice campground jackfish, I've stayed there many times. We're at Toad River Lodge and RV Resort heading to Whitehorse today. Enjoy retirement and the journey. Safe travels.

Oh so true, just passed thru Burwash Landing to Beaver Creek this afternoon and that is absolutely the WORST stretch of road on the Alcan. I've driven to the summit of Pikes Peak and also the Hana Highway in Maui and they are super highways compared to that section on road! After Beaver Creek, the rest of the way to Tok was a piece of cake. If you're heading north, slow way down!!!!

Thanks Corjaguar, heading to our Anchorage house till August. Just came from Fast Eddys and were stuffed. Don't think the road will be much better by the time you hit it so be safe, stop a lot and take lots of pictures. Rving & Harley's, it all about the adventure/journey, not how fast you get from one place to another, right?
