I like Riverview, stayed there a number of times. Never tried Eielson or Wainwright and Riverview is close yo the Harley shop. They used to have a car show at Riverview on Friday evenings. They still do that?

We're heading to Anchorage, Seward for the 4th of July, then Homer. Have family and friends in Anchorage and Homer and it's tradition that a bunch of us that all went to Church together in Anchorage always camp in Seward for the 4th dating back to 2001. Missed it the last 2 years so we're anxious to catch up with everyone. Thanks for the info and safe travels. If you ever get close to Anchorage or Bullhead City, let me know. We should be back in AZ some time in September.

We will be crossing into Canada tomorrow (6/19/14) at Sumas heading to Fairbanks assuming Canada authorities allow us to enter but we don't expect that to be a problem. We are in a bluish 39 foot Journey motorhome pulling a 24 foot white trailer and if anyone along the way wants to tag up up for a bit of the trip flag us down (or something) We travel slowly and are not in a hurry to get there (where ever there is) but often enjoy some company.

Thank you for your service Jim. One of these days were gonna make it to Daytona for Bike Week or Biketober Fest. It's been on the agenda for the last 2 years, but STUFF HAPPENS.

We are in Ninilchik for several days. In a PA park for $15 per day with full hookups. Unlimited day on PA rate. The place is empty

I live in Fairbanks and I bought a DP with a Winegard system set up for Direct TV. I was wondering if any of you fellow travelers use Direct TV on the road up from the lower 48 or in Fairbanks. I currently don't have a receiver as I'm not a Direct TV subscriber at my home. I have cable TV at the house. I was told by one person that due to the latitude up here that the dish on my RV is too small for Direct TV but that Dish Network would work here.
Does anyone here have experience with this?

Akcontender, I converted my Direct TV dish to Dish Network on my coach and it's worked fine from Arizona to Anchorage. Some times it only locates 1 or 2 of the usual 3 birds so not always HD, but it has worked. Converted to Dish because that's what we have at home in Arizona and had issues when I inquired with Direct TV about having their service in my coach. They basically wouldn't give me any info until I gave them my SSAN! For obvious reasons, I wasn't willing to do that over the phone.

I ordered a VIP 211Z cable box from Winegard and it's been good to go. When we change locations, I just start a chat session with Dish Tech Support, give them our new location and they set up the new local channels so we have local stations for news, weather, sports etc etc etc.

Anxious to see how it works in Seward and Homer. Hope this helps. As far as Dish vs Direct, its like Chevy vs GMC truck. Personal preference I guess.

We have been using our DirecTV with no issues as long as we have a view of the sky. Last two campgrounds had too many trees. Most of the HD channels drop out but we still have been getting SD channels. We have a roof top satellite dish.

I talked briefly to a Direct TV rep and was told that the small dish on the RV wouldn't work here in Fairbanks but that Dish Network does. I guess our northern latitude here will pick up the Dish Network satellites better.
I have never had satellite TV before so I am a newbie about this. What is required to change the receiver from one company to another?

Perhaps I have hijacked this link away from the original topic but it seemed the appropriate place as it is about reception both coming up here and while you are here?

Winegard has a kit for the conversion but they will only sell it to dealers, not individual users. I contacted a Dish installation place in Arizona and they ordered and installed the new dish, LNB, and associated wiring. They also removed and left me all the DirectTV equipment they removed. Hope this helps. I have the Winegard Traveller on the roof of my coach.

Where is this Tundra campground? website? Planning a 16' or 17' trip.

Have family in North Pole and there used to have a small campground at Santa Clausehouse, but closed down a few years ago.

Along Chena Hot Springs road just NE of Fairbanks the 3 state parks were being re-built last summer. Two were finished and the 3rd Rose Hip was 1/2 way done.

It is in Tok, AK. It could use some work but is very state park like only with full hookups and they have a wash station. We stayed there 4 night and enjoyed every minute of it.
