In the park there are 5-6 federal campgrounds, but only 2 are for RV's. The one at the entrance ( Riley Creek / 146 sites ) and the other at mile marker 26 ( Teklanika River 53 sites ). in Denali n.p.,access to the public park only goes about 50 miles. If you take the private shuttle, it goes about 125 miles into the park. It's more expensive, but you get to SEE 10 TIMES MORE WILDLIFE, plus a set-down lunch, panning for gold, and dog sled demonstration. We went in 2007, and had a friend tell us about the private, reservation needed 6 months in advance, 6 course lunch at the private home.

It cost about $125/head, but if you want to see wildlife 10 feet from the bus, this is the trip i would recommend. we are going again in 2015, and have reservation for this. Its the only reservation we may make.

The trip takes 12 hours and stops at all the other stops along the way. Carry snacks and drinks with you.

Our advice is not to take the private tour. Instead, take the less expensive shuttle bus. The drivers are very informative, you can get on and off wherever you want, and it goes just as far as the tour bus. It sees the same wildlife ... and probably more because the driver stops whenever something is seen and lets you take lots of pics. Of course, you have to bring your own lunch!

The dog sled demo is available to anyone, free, put on by the park rangers.

If you have time, another 'side trip' that is worth taking is to go to the Arctic Circle. We did that trip a while back when my sister came to visit. Yes it was a long ride in a van, but it was fun to be with people from all over. I was the only person from Alaska and fielded all kinds of questions. We went with a company out of Fairbanks. Be ready for ALL kinds of weather, as this is Alaska and it can/will change quickly. There is so much to do here that one can get 'overwhelmed' easily.'
No matter have a fun trip and enjoy!
