Heading out to Albuquerque area on the next trip and wondered what some of the things in the area that are must do or see. We spent a few days out there a couple of years ago and saw a few things, such as the Sandia Peaks tram, toured the old town in Albuquerque and rode the Rail Runner up to Sante Fe.
This trip I was thinking more natural stuff, like scenic drives, hikes or maybe 4 wheel jeep trails.
If you have any favorites or things you feel shouldn't be missed and would like to share them then we would love to hear about your adventures.

I like the drive up 84 to Chama and Cubres Pass and the Turquoise Trail drive up 14 through Madrid offers a few interesting stops. I find lunch at the buffet in the bar at LaFonda in Santa Fe a casual, good food stop. A drive over to Las Vegas and up towards Taos might be of interest also. If a TV series Longmire fan then I believe much of that show is filmed around LV. Chama and LV are very historic if that is interest. Train ride out of Chama looks neat up thru Lobo Ranch (some of Bite the Bullet set). b

We would consider a day in Taos a must. Artsy type town with lots of history to include the oldest continuously lived in residences in the US (1000 years)

The Puye cliff dwellings are a great tour. Interesting and beautiful area. A drive up the road to the Sandia summit from the east side is also worth the trip if you have a car, SUV or Jeep. I would not try it in a larger MH like your HR.

The high road to Taos from Albuquerque, the Natural history Museum, west of Albuquerque there are pictographs, Taos Pueblo. I love the area! There is a casino in Albuquerque also. Sante Fe also has an old town. Must also be forest roads you could drive.

Thank you for the replies and suggestions on things to do. Like the ideas on the drive up NM 14 to Sante Fe and the drive up Sandia Peak. Taos sounds neat as well as I think we may check out Los Alamos. Being on a balloon crew would be interesting but wife just had surgery and is limited on how much she can pull and lift so I think that is out.
Would like to check out some of the petroglyphs so appreciate that suggestion.
Thanks for the suggestion of the buffet in Sante Fe, part of the flavor so to speak of different parts of the country are the restaurants and unique eating establishments. Last time we discovered the El Pinto in Albuquerque which we really enjoyed so if anyone has any other suggestions on places to eat the would love to try.

Scenic drives, hickes and jeep trail can be a lot of fun and will for sure help to develop an appetite.

Pasqual's in downtown Santa Fe is a must for their good food and ambiance.

Besides the LaFonda buffet on square of Santa Fe, another favorite is Tortilla Flats out Cerrillos Rd (3139) near WalMart. Spend time in that country one or twice a year. Will go through SF around the 4th of October headed up in the mountains near Hopewell Lake. The small Lake and small camping area is on 64 between TA and Taos then 84 from TA north to Chama or south to SF is all very nice drive, but 295 from 64 back to Espanola is not near as scenic, lots of sage brush flats.

In Santa Fe, The Pantry on Cerillos is good. Also check out Harry's Roadhouse out on the old Las Vegas Highway. Don't go to Harry's during prime mealtimes as you will have quite a wait. We go mid morning or mid afternoon. There used to be a place out near Harry's called Bobcat Bites but it closed. I've been told that the owner opened up a new place in town call The Bite. Pretty good green chili cheeseburgers. If you go to Chama, get a green chili cheeseburger at Bodes General Store in Abiquiu.

Santa Fe: the oldest house in US, Loretto church Stair case. North of Santa Fe Bandelier monument, Santa Fe National Forest (Hyde State park ) changing of Aspen trees. New Mexico Chile(Green/Red)Dam excellent. bradnailer: Bob cat bite moved to down town Santa Fe now The Bite Good food Poor service(the brought me someone's breakfast when I ordered a Green Chile Burger, no utensils to eat with. Now Albuquerque has the New Mexico State Fair going on plenty of New Mexico culture.

After eating those great meals others have mentioned, try hiking through the Petroglyph National Monument, just a few miles west of Albuquerque:

It's an easy hike, with little elevation change. It's located just off Unser Boulevard.
