I thought I remembered a campground somewhere along the road or maybe in the parking lot at the Indian center.

We have not, but we have spent time at Monument Lake Campground on Tamiami Trail (US41), it was very nice campground, no utilities but inexpensive. Another CG a little east of it has 30A electric, also very nice. Both these are federally operated campgrounds in the Big Cypress Nat. Preserve.

I hate to drive the alley never mind sleep there. I don't think I'd feel safe enough to do that. There are a lot of shall we say "undesirables" hiding out down there and you would make a good target...

"If the Gators don't get you the locals will" . Pay the money and sleep well and maybe even wake up.

Yea, two years ago on the North side. Got real stormy and wanted a break. Got the slides out and grill out and had a great time. Took bread down to the water and fed a gator. We were the only ones in the parking area. Security came by and advised us to look real good when exiting the coach.
The one with the fire station on the south side.

I'm not "picking" on you, Bullheaded, but your comment about feeding a gator just opened the door.
We live in Florida on a fresh water river that has alligators......just like virtually all water in Florida. Gators are dangerous.......particularly in the wild. The one thing that should never be done is to feed a gator or for that matter other wildlife. Gators when fed by people then associate humans with food. And that can lead to gators causing harm to humans. We natives have to call a licensed gator trapper to remove (and harvest) gators that start hanging around homes that are on the water. So, please, don't feed the wildlife.

Some Gator just ate a 90 year old woman here in SW Fl. You should never feed them especially yourself!
