Almost time for first trip

we are almost ready to take our inaugural trip in our new to us 2005 Monaco Executive. We plan on heading south from Indiana to Pigeon forge, then to Asheville NC to see Biltmore estate, down to Charleston SC then to Savannah GA nod head on into Florida. We have no reservations and will be calling ahead as we go to reserve spots. Hopefully this plan will work. We will be gone 8-10 weeks. Anyone have any suggestions of great places to stay or see along this route? This is our first big trip and we are excited!

Sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned!

On your southernmost travels, check out Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort between Charleston and Savannah. It's our favorite place and makes for a great base from which to see Savannah. You can look at pictures of the lots online in the reservation section. Our favorite is 282 because of the lush privacy plantings and quiet green space behind the lot.

Have fun making memories. Don't forget paper and pen to keep notes as you travel because you will learn something new every time you turn the key and head out.

Hi IlliniCathy,
For Pigeon Forge, consider The Dell at Hidden Mountain. Go to Hidden Mountain Resort, Inc. | Cabin Types | The Dell RV for information. If this is your place to stay lot 2615 or lot 2605 are good choices. You can reserve a specific lot via their web site. 1 mile off the parkway, behind the Opry/Titanic attractions. If you want to be the closest to all the shows, The Dell is the place to be. Very large sites and peace and quiet is what The Dell offers. For discount tickets, go to Walmart. In the lobby is the largest discount brochure rack you have ever seen. Buying tickets, before you purchase go to the Opry ticket office. They have really good discounts on several shows.

If going to the GSMNP check the weather, at the park. The GSMNP is much higher in elevation than The Dell. A good gage is from lot 2615, you can see Mt. LeConte, the 3rd highest peak in the Smokies. You will be 1K above sea level. Mt LeConte is 6.5K above sea level. If the mountain is white, call the park to determine weather conditions.

If you want a CG environment, there are many along the parkway. River Plantation is a good choice. http://rvcoutdoors.com/river-plantation/ No traffic light to get into or out of the Parkway. Other than that it is a nice place.

For Ashville, consider Asheville RV Park and Camping | Asheville NC Camping | Tent Camping again, watch the weather. On the east side of the Smokies you will be at a higher elevation than on the west side.

Florida is a big state. Respond here or PM me on where you would like to visit. I home base in Florida.

There should be no problem finding a site everywhere but Florida. The farther south you go the harder it will be to get a site.
