Where would you stay in this area? Ouray, Lake City, or Creede? Or any other town or area with a nice campground with full HU.

Are you an experienced mountain road driver?

Have you consulted the Mountain West Directory?

There are some roads in this area where large trucks and RVs should not travel (and some where travel is prohibited)

I have lived in Colorado previously and drove in the mountains quite a bit, just not in this particular area. Experience is relative, some are more experienced than me, and me more than some.

I do have the mountain west directory and have consulted it about this area.

Thanks for your concern.

Now, about some of the better campgrounds. Any ideas?

We have stayed at Silver Summit RV park in Silverton before and are going again in August. Here is their link:

silversummit

This is above 9000 ft and is between Ouray and Durango.

We have about eight rigs going and are four wheel enthusiasts and there are trails for everyone there.

Rich and Cork, thanks for the tip on Silverton RV Park. It looks like a very nice park and we are considering staying there.

We have stayed in Lake City at Highlander RV park several times. Elevation 9,000 ft. Owners are super nice.

We are back. We stayed at Montrose RV Resort and made day trips to Ouray, Silverton, Telluride, and the Black Canyon. We had a great time and did a lot of jeeping. All the passes on the alpine loop were not open when we were there but enjoyed what was available. Went to the base of Bridal Veil Falls in Telluride. Could not make it to the power house, too much snow, like 6' on the upper part of the road. The weather could not have been better, upper 70's during the day and down, some nights, to the 40's.

Glad you had a good time. Isn't Montrose a neat little town?

I am sure most of the snow will be melted by the time we get there in August. Our group is really looking forward to being there.
