Going from Amarillo to Laredo to Corpus Christe and back again in a motor-home. What highways/routes would you suggest I take. Would you recommend any interesting sights to see along the way and any camping spots? Is there a circular route which would be different on the way back?

Thanks for the Bing Maps, I couldn't get it to open, but it looks very similar to Streets and Trips. Does anyone know if US 87 between Amarillo and San Antonio is in decent shape? Is it a major highway or one that should be avoided in favor of an interstate.

Streets and Trips shows Hwy 87 as a 4 lane divided road in some places. So I searched on-line for a better description and found this site http://www.milebymile.com/. It shows pictures of many highways and descriptions of things around, even some routes in Mexico and Canada.

87 should be ok. The 2 lane portion we use in a 40' MH with toad (Austin to Midland).
Fredricksburg has the Museum of the Pacific War (Nimitz) which is worth 1/2 day then there is the shopping........ Parking off Main St. allows for MH's
Then there is San Antonio. Worth several days but must see the Alamo, River Walk and the "Mission Trail".
Is there a reason for Laredo? I would check the State Depts. web site for any warnings before crossing the border, also a passport or the new "passport card" required to reenter the US.

H. Thanks for the information.

I was going to Loredo so I could check out the fishing in Falcon Lake near Zapata. Then head to Corpus Christe and then follow coast towards Galveston and just poke around to see what's there. I have about a months time to do this circuit.

I'd like to make a stop at a border town in Mexico, just walk across, if I can find one that people with local knowledge feel is safe. I have been checking the State Department web site for about six months now, and have been reading forums for peoples opinions on the subject. There seems to be a mixed bag of opinions, some forum moderators even delete discussions if people say negative things about going to Mexico.
