Anchorage trying to outlaw parking lot use

I am not sure if this is the right place for this but.
Some Anchorage area campgrounds are trying to get an ordinance passed that will outlaw parking in parking lots like Cabelas and Wal-Mart.
With a $100 fine.
Lottie Michaels of Golden Nugget RV Park is behind it stating that she looses money!!

Just to let you know.

No surprise. Everyone is out to make a buck !

What's anoying is, when your travelling, who wants to go thru the check-in proccess, probably have to unhook your toad to back in, bother people staying there, at 9-10pm, not even hook any services up, then bother the same people when you leave early the next morning !!!!

And, for all this hassle, you get to pay them 35-60$.

Happened here too. One or maybe more of the RV park associations actually puts out a packet of ideas to follow to get laws passed against boondocking.

Here they used the high crime rate at Wal*Marts, then claimed it was due to the RV's in the lots. Guess they never heard of shoplifters, yep, they included them in the "statistics" they quoted. But, since no one from the RV community showed up the council passed the ordinance. It would have helped if the RV community had known about it though.

Maybe hotel owners should get a law passed outlawing campgrounds.

A couple of years ago we were in Anchorage for a few days and of course went to Walmart.
My first thought driving into the parking lot was that it looked like some run down RV Park. There were RV's of all types on jacks, generators out, broken down vehicles parked next to them, one up on ramps changing oil, lawn chairs out, BBQ's out. Etc Etc.
These were not weary overnight travelers. These were people taking advantage of a good thing.
I'm all for saving a Buck but this situation was over the top. I dont blame the RV Park owners for raising the issue at all. If fact, I'm surprised the city wouldn't be on side.

Last year there was a shoot out between 'RVrs' and Police in local (Cottonwood AZ) Walmart parking lot one evening.

Town Council IMMEDIATELY passed an ordinance 'NO Overnight Parking"

Woo-Hoo!!

Now I don't have to dodge urine filled bottles/trash and some kind of 'fluid' stuff or worry about GF being accosted while shopping.
Place is now pleasant to go shopping at.

Not always local CGs.....some times town/cities act smart.

So RV'ers are responsible for criminal acts in Wal*Mart lots? Seems like CRIMINALS are responsible.

We've stayed at dozens of Wal*Marts over the years we've been RV'ing and have NEVER seen that.

Seems like this thread has already gone to a "bash Wal*Mart" thread

I spent half of this past summer in Anchorage from the middle of July to the third week in September. Part of that was at the Golden Nugget RV Park and to me they seem to be almost full most of the summer so I don't understand what the beef is.

Personally if Anchorage does follow through with that ban they will be cutting their own throats WRT revenues they get from the thousands of visitors who rent or own RV's for the summer.

There are so many other free places to stay at while in Anchorage that it won't affect me personally when I return the next time.

This move reminds me of what happened in Lake City Florida with a local RV Park owner managing to get the city to do the same thing, ban RV parking at the local Walmart. Well the city got so many complaints about the change that they had to reverse their decision.

Please point to where I BASHED Walmart

Correct .....Criminals are responsible for criminal acts and low life irresponsible RVrs cause issues for ALL RVrs

As an RVr ------I prefer not having to weave/dodge either when I go shopping.
When 'stealth' camping is not permitted chances increase that I won't have to deal with it

Our Community Rules require that we discuss the topic and not each other. Let's do that .
Thanks
