Its not as close as you might like but I would and have stayed Pohick Regional Park in Lorton, VA and drive in, if you can get a site there. There are a couple of CGs closer but none that we like as well. Pohick has full hookup and electric only sites so you know what you're looking at.

Hello oldeguy-

Might be slim pickings. I grew up there, still have family there. I suspect land is too valuable for an RV park.

Last winter we stayed 6 nights at Cherry Hill in College Park on the westbound leg of our trip:

Cherry Hill Park is the Closest Campground to Washington, DC :|: Cherry Hill Park

We wanted to stay closer to Annapolis and/or Damascus, MD, on the eastbound return leg, but were unable to find anything, so we went right on by- ended up north of Baltimore, in Abingdon.

I'd forgotten about Cherry Hill but used to stay there and suspect its closer and less trouble getting a reservation. All RV parks in the area are expensive but Cherry Hill might be the most expensive. If you go there you might try to stay towards the front as the back is very close to the interstate and quite noisy.

05kstar-

Thanks for the information, especially Millersville KOA, which is half the distance from Annapolis compared to College Park. Have you stayed in any of the three already mentioned, and if so, what did you think of them?

I've stayed at Pohick and College Park, both 7-8 to me on a 10 scale and Millersville KOA is rated 7.1 on RVParkReviews.com but pricey for sure.

PostMan-

Yes, our experience was that Cherry Hill's rate was near the top of what we paid during our trip. But, then it is a nice park in a central location for the D.C. sightseeing crowd.

It was also the only park we could find open in that area the week after New Year's. The staff were nice; they let me borrow one of their snow shovels after it snowed four inches our third night there. We and about 10 other RVs had the park to ourselves- probably not the case now!

Duncan's and Millersville are both average.Cherry Hill is convenient for D.C. exploration, but because of traffic I wouldn't consider it for trips to Annapo!is.Pohick would take 2 hours to get to Annapolis. If You are a gambler,Maryland Live Casino is about 15 minutes away from Millersville. If You choose Duncan's,there is a slots hall at a restaurant called Rod n Reel. Also, while in Annapolis be sure to go to Annapolis Seafood and get some REAL crabcakes that are packaged to take with You to broil or fry at your coach or at home.
