We loved Shelter Cove west of Garberville, nice grassy site with full hookups and incredible view of the water but services are limited and the road will test your nerves. We did see dp's in there.

As a retired Marine, San Onofre beach aboard Camp Pendleton. Its where I learned to surf with those really long boards back in the 60's

Havn't been there in quite a while but sure would like to go again! But as I remember that water is COLD

I remember when they kicked us out of an LVT about 100 yards off shore and we had to swim with all our gear, bout drowned but made it.

Happy Trails
Jim

Ditto Half Mood Bay SP just below SF, no hookups but it is right on the water and sites are paved and level. A large rig with no tag should have no problems as the sites are open and you can back in right up to your rear jacks.

We have a 38' MH and many of the CA State Parks on the beach can't accomodate the bigger MHs. At least that is what the Reserve America site says. Not sure how strict the parks actually are on it though. We camp at the Silver Strand and really enjoy it. No hookups, just a parking lot and overpiced but it is right on the ocean. I'd like to find another place on the water to try. Half Moon Bay is a pretty good drive for us - we live in Phoenix.

One place we stayed with full hook ups was Faria Beach, right on the ocean. Also has small beach style restaurants.

Bodega Bay has a park right next to the Marina. It doesn't look like much driving in with the old full-timer trailer park in the front, but drive pass that eye sore and right there on the water is a nice little park with full views of the bay. You can back upto the shore on the bay, walk the marina, fish and enjoy boats. We used to always stayed at the small State Parks there and by passed this one because of the above mentioned trailer park. When we got our 40' motorhome we wanted the full service park and this one is perfect. There is another private park close, but no water view.

There are state parks both north and south of Big Sur. Parks in Big Sur are nice also.

Check out Seaclif State beach in Santa Cruz. Camping sites are right on the beach. The down side: very popular spot with limited number of spots. You need reservations far in advance.
