We made it through Texas without any major damage to our motorhome, or the parks we stayed at, but the weather was terrible. From the time we left Ft Stockton until our last night in Georgetown we were rained on, hailed on, wind blown and under tornado watches. Shreveport LA isn't any better, only here the hail was larger, the winds heavier, rain that would have inspired Noah to build a rather large boat and a thunder storm that kept us up until the wee hours of the morning.

From what I hear it's moving across the southeast as we do. The damage to small towns and cities driving through Texas was sad. Worse yet is that they are expecting more rain. That's the last thing they need. I wish the best of luck to the folks rebuilding their RV Park.

Anyone near a river, or creek was in trouble. Houston was a disaster area. Roundrock and Austin were hit hard as were many other communities in that area. God willing the weather will improve soon so the state can begin recovery. Oklahoma was especially hard hit.

We have been in Texas camping for the last 12 days and only had brief periods of rain during the day times. It seems the rain is always just behind us. Mustang Island State Park for 4 nights ...beautiful. San Antonio for 4 nights beautiful during the day times, and now Kerrville for 4 nights, almost perfect weather, abet hot and muggy. Tomorrow we head out for western Texas and I hope more great weather.

The Vineyards campground in Grapvine, Texas

The Vineyards Campground and Cabins on Grapevine Lake

The lake was 9 feet below normal, they made that up then went up over 13 feet more. The very far back corner where we like to stay went under water. At one point they were still open, as the website states but I just heard that they were cleared out and closed down until further notice. This is one of the best campgrounds close to Dallas. I hope they bounce back.

Currently in Little Rock and hoping to visit the Presidential Libraries in Texas, beginning with the George W. Bush Library in Dallas.

Does anyone have current info on the status of Shady Creek RV Park (shadycreekrv) just northwest of Dallas in Aubrey?

Their office hours show closed at 1 p.m. today. Their phone rings with no answer.

Thanks.

Take care,
Stu

Had my reservation at Sandy Lake cancelled Friday morning. They told me the park started evacuation at three am due to flooding. Sitting in Shawnee, OK until Tuesday and then heading to Belton, TX.

I heard Sandy Lake was evacuated also and Lake Lewisville was shut down to boat traffic, but I don't know if RV park is still open or not?

We made it in to Shady Creek RV Park (between Denton & McKinney) this afternoon. Everybody is wearing sunglasses... Been so long since they saw the sun.

Take care,
Stu

Don't know about a picnic table charge; however, there's no table at our site. Haven't looked for picnic tables at other's sites. No mention of a charge when we checked in.

This reply is coming to you via the free wifi.

We were just glad to find a dry place for a couple of nights.

Take care,
Stu

I fully understand. Before going full time we parked our coach at Custer and 281 (roughly) and lived in Plano. We went there to hang out for Memorial Day weekend a year ago so we could shop for toad N,S,E,W. After the office closed we discovered no wifi or table. I think they charged 10 bucks for a table a week. Don't remember the wifi cost cause I didn't pay it. It's really a pretty nice stop for a few nights or longer if you need to be in the area. Glad they stayed dry and you as well.
