Anyone at Bahia Honda now?
If you are at Bahia Honda now, can you give us a bug report? Are the no-see-ums bad right now? We'll be there next week! yea!

I was hoping someone would answer. I'll be at Curry Hammock the 15th for a week.

We are heading that way next week. What can we put on or do to keep the no-see-ums under control. Will they bother dogs also? If so what can we do for her also.

I have been told that sprinkling Borax laundry soap powder around your site will repell them from your site but have not tried it yet. Most of the state parks have no see ums as they don't spray so I might have to give this a try soon. While at Jonathan Dickenson last week they tore me up at dusk but left my dog alone. They bit on all exposed skin but left clothed parts and my fury dog alone.

Avon's Skin So soft helps a little, but the only thing that works is 20 knots wind or have NO exposed skin

This thread is making me want to go back down to the Keys We were there last May and hoped to go again this year, but it just didn't quite work for us
Anyway, sorry to jump in on your thread, just wanted to say those near the Keys truly have something special!

Skin So Soft ( or Cutters with Skin so Soft) and a couple citronella candles on the picnic table worked for me.

They are nearly impossible to control and hardly anything really repels them. I live in Vero Beach, FL and my back yard is adjacent to protected wetlands ...
My house has screens that are:
Phifer 36 in. x 25 ft. Charcoal Fiberglass Screen 20x20 No-See-Um Mesh-3032230 at The Home Depot
Tomorrow, I'll re-screen the RV. The No-See-Um screening is a 20 X 20 mesh which is just small enough that they don't fly thru. Standard screening is like a wide open window to them. It (20 X 20) does reduce some light and airflow but the alternative is closing all the windows and doors. They will also fly thru the screens on Fantastic Fans.
The other product that works for about a week is:
Cutter 32 fl. oz. Backyard Bug Control Spray Concentrate-HG-61067-2 at The Home Depot

Thanks for all the tips... notes have been made.
Regarding my original question, is anyone there now that can give me a bug report. Maybe Curry Hammock is close enough. We'll come armed with all the repellants etc, just wanted to know what we can expect next week.

I think we can expect to be bitten .... sigh .... . However, right now, the evening temps are above normal and I envision running the A/C at night anyway. I am also putting a coat of Rejex on the front tomorrow ... the June/Love Bugs are wicked in Vero.

Not familiar with the term "red bug" ... might be.
biting midges, no-see-ums, Culicoides spp.
just checked ... apparently a "red bug" is a "chigger" .... different from no-see-ums.
