Anyone take a Motorhome from Allentown PA to Jones Beach State Park NY

We are going to the Jimmy Buffet concert this week on July 21st and was thinking of taking the motorhome to do some tailgating. Anyone taken one there? Looking at the good Sam trip planner it appears there are a lot of No RV's, no propane, and low clearances on the routes I have tried. Just wondering if anyone has done it and can recommend a route that would be good. Thanks.

Do you mean Aug 21st? Route 78 east to NJ Turnpike…north to GWBridge across Cross Bronx Expressway to Throgs Neck Bridge to Clearview Expresswy 295 south to 495 east…can't take Cross Island Parkway or other Parkways on Long Island..low bridges. Exit 44S Route 135 Seaford Oyster Bay expressway South to exit 2W Sunrise Hwy West to Meadowbrook Parkway South……(rv allowed south of Sunrise Hwy on Parkway) Don't be tempted to go across Staten Island. The BQE is very curvy and very narrow.

I just mapped it on my Good Sam Trip Planner and on Meadowbrook Pkwy where Merrick Rd instersects there is a low clearance alert for 7'8". Do you know what this is or if I can get around it? Also still alerts for no RV's south of Sunrise Hghwy.

You can't take the Meadowbrook Parkway, The bridge clearances are too low for an RV and there are quite a few. Same with the Wantaugh. The best I can suggest, and you will have to research it is to take the LIE out to the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway & go South until you get to Sunrise Highway (Route 27). Go east to the Robert Moses Causeway which looks like it can handle truck traffic & go South to Jones Beach. It's quite a bit longer trip, but hey, it's New York.

Ok. That takes care of low clearance issues. Trip planner still says no RV's. Do you know if that is accurate?

There are only 3 bridges to get to Jones Beach, and 2 of them are on Parkways. Maybe you should call the State Police barracks in Long Island and ask them?

i checked by googling Meadowbrook Parkway and Jones Beach State Park for
parking and bridge clearances for rv..... best if you do it yourself so that you are clear to the restrictions.

From Sunrise Highway or Merrick Road you still need to take Wantagh Parkway south to Jones Beach. I don't believe motor homes are allowed on the parkways.

When the parkways were built they were designed for scenic motoring and not intended for commercial traffic, hence the name "park" way.

Jones Beach remains, in my opinion, one of the nicest beaches in the world. Unfortunately New York has grown around it and it (along with Long Island) isn't what it used to be. I worked at the beach during my high school years. It was wonderful. New York/Long Island was a great place to grow up and be from in the 60's and 70's. Hither Hills State Park in Montauk was a great camping destination but is near impossible to get reservations there anymore.

The Amphitheater at Jones Beach is great place. It used to be the venue for summer theater followed by dancing to Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians in the Schaefer Beer tent.

Leave the MH home and go enjoy.
