Anything walking distance to a beach? NJ DE MD?

Looking to find a place (full hookup preferred) within walking distance to a real beach in NJ DE or MD for our next trip in the DP.

Good Luck!
The closest that comes to mind is Assateague Island State Park. One camping loop has electric.
Maryland Department of Natural Resources - Maryland Park Service
There is a National Park there also, but no hookups.
Bring plenty of bug repellent! The skeeters will carry you OFF!

Are the bugs bad during the day, or just after dark?

We go to Cape May every year and stay at Depot Travel Park, closest campground to the beach. It's about a mile, more of a bike ride than a walk. Yes, the bugs (skeeters!) can be really bad in early August when we go, so we stay in a screened area from dusk on. But for a decent campground within striking distance of the Jersey beaches, we enjoy it.

We also camped at the Cape Hatteras KOA a few years ago, right on the beach (stairs up and over the dune, and you are there). Really enjoyed it, and would go back there next time we head to the Outer Banks.

Assateague National seashore park is one of my favorite locations. The bugs are infamous. They're being there is "hit and miss" but memorable when they are there. My daughter is camping there this week. As memory services me there is a Maryland State facility right next door with hook-ups. I also enjoy Frisco National seashore park but that's in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

I know you did not say Virginia, but Virginia Beach has First Landing State Park and Holiday Travel Park.

We stay at the Holiday Travel Park, it is a short bicycle ride to the beach area. First Landing is on the water.

From living in NJ, the beaches / campgrounds are very crowded and a little outdated.
