April Camping in the Mid-South

We're headed for Florida on January 9th however local commitments require that we return to Michigan in late February. I'm already starting to think about where to head after that - am thinking about heading out from Michigan at the beginning of April for roughly a month. I figuring to head far enough south to get to slightly warmer weather - but not so far as to be a second trip to the deep south. I'm thinking something in the Kentucky / Tennessee region.

Can anybody share their impressions of what the typical weather is in that part of the country in early / mid April? Perhaps recommend a few areas that would make a good destination in that part of the country during that time of year?

With El Niņo it's going to be a crapshoot. Typically, April brings t-storms to the areas you're talking about. Obviously not continuously, but something to be aware of.

Hi SpaceNorman,
In eastern Tennessee the weather is quite pleasant. There is always some rain in the Smoky Mountains, that is what keeps them alive. I do not remember the rain being a threat to having a good time. For me, the one thing to consider is pollen. In April the pollen is usually in full swing. If there are allergy considerations be aware of this. My experience is the Sevierville, Pigeon Forge area.

Do you camp or glamp? Resort or campground.? If you want to be near water take a look at the many COE parks in middle TN and western KY.
Great time to fish in the area.

We're "flexible" - We "glamo" when we must - but are equally happy to camp! To date, our preference has been state parks - so the COE parks are right up our ally. I'll do more research on that. I'm hoping for a month ... And reasonable expectation for decent temperatures (high 50's during the day).
