Arizona Route 66 March/ April

We are taking a little trip to Arizona, planning a side trip along route 66 between Kingman and Flagstaff. Then head down to Phoenix to catch some of the Cactus League Games. Any Ideas?

A short distance from Bullhead City is the old mining town of Oatman located on Route 66.

Camp Verde

There is a very nice RV park called Distant Drums in Camp Verde between Flagstaff and Phoenix. We stayed there last year for 5 nights and explored Sedona, Jerome, Cottonwood area. Really nice to stay outside of the now very touristy Sedona. But it is very beautiful to drive in to see and not very far from Camp Verde. Also we loved Tuzigot and Montezuma's Castle. Both close to Camp Verde.

Depending on the kind of rig you have Flagstaff KOA can be a tight fit and we don't recommend for larger RVS. We are 40 ft with 3 slides and the site and roads inside park were not easy to navigate. Doable, but I'd book elsewhere if you are larger rig. We also spent an evening at the Lowell Observatory and had a great time.

In the Phoenix/Mesa/Apache Jct. areas are the wonderful Maricopa County parks...big sites with lush desert.

We just 'did' Sedona for the 8th time and each time it gets worse with traffic and people. You need to hike to get away from it. I'm glad we first saw Sedona about 20 years ago. That's the memory I'll have!

We also just did a AZ/CO game. It's HOT out there so be prepared. Have fun!
