Aspen, Colorado

We are thinking of driving from Alabama to Aspen for Christmas, does anyone know how the roads travel in December? Do you need snow chains? I have never driven a 43 footer pulling a jeep on wintery roads. Anyone have any advice?

Colorado has laws requiring traction devices when the wx is bad.
Interstate 70 west of Denver often closes when the wx is bad.
We carry chains/cables for our tag axle Monaco just in case.

Just watch the weather...Avoid at all cost driving east on I-70 out of Denver that Friday or Saturday before Xmas...Everyone and his brother that wants to go skiing will be on the road. Yes, many people will stop at the Summit County ski areas or Vail.

Especially Saturday morning if the weather is iffy, there will be many vehicles spun out into the shoulder.

I'm trip leader for our ski club that goes to Colorado every year. Two years ago it was Aspen / Snowmass....This year it will be Vail....

There used to be a RV parking area at Vail in or near the "Ford" parking lot....Not sure if it is available anymore....the property management companies have petitioned resort cities to "out-law" RV over night parking..

Aspen / Snowmass pics

Take the free shuttle bus to Snowmass village and try The Stew Pot for lunch or dinner. It's been around for 20+ years and still a great value and the best stew and simple lunch or dinner option around. Be fore-warned::: It is a small place, so get there early....Right in Snowmass Mall
