AT&T usage in Canada

Planning a 3 week trip to Canadian Rockies in Sept. AT&T offers a 30 day one time rate $40.00 but still have. To pay $1:00 per minute, has anyone used this and is it worth over just paying the roaming rates?

It totally depends upon how much you plan to use your cell-phone in CA. We planned to use our for emergencies only, so paid roaming charges. We were in CA a total of 20 days and made 3 calls-when we found a tower signal.

Wonder whats changed - rates?

We used ATT Go phones that were about 10 dollars a month more than US rates for 1 month last year when we went pt AK across Canada. Seems like calls were about 30 cents a minute north of the border and texts 5 cents.( It wasn't a dollar though)

The phones were fine and worked well in developed areas south of Grand Prairie. North and west of Grand Prairie they were worthless and we had no service even though ATT maps showed service in larger town along th Alaska Highway(we did not)

Great question and one we are looking for the best answer for us. We are also planning to spend a month exploring the Eastern Canadian areas in September. So far I think we will just tell everyone to use email, and we will check them at campgrounds where there is WiFi.

We changed our att service to their unlimited program. I believe this program includes roaming in Mexico and Canada at no extra charge.

This is a long story but I went to see a show in Canada a few weeks ago and I wanted to play around on Facebook and be able to get my email. The roaming fees and data charges were ridiculous when I called and asked.

I did a little research on the Googles and found out if you have the 15gb plan you are eligible for the Canada and Mexico upgrade that gives you free roaming and 10gb of data in either country per month. If you go over the data there is just a onetime fee of 30 bucks for another 10gb.

Problem is the only way to get the add on is to call their retention department. You don't have to threaten to leave or anything just call and ask for retention. Once you get a live agent just tell them you want the Canada special.

They even upgraded me to a 20gb plan with rollover data for free.

Sucks that a regular agent can't help but give them a call and ask.
