Avoid I74 West over the Mississippi River

The construction zone limits the width to 8' - 6". And they aren't kidding. Don't know how we made it through that with all our paint!

I, like many others, appreciate the heads up. Would you mind identifying a large city nearby. I don't know where highway 74 is located and the area of concern. Thanks

I74 West crosses the Mississippi River into Davenport Iowa. We came from Indianapolis

Thanks on the locale. With an 8' 6" clearance on the road, that leaves just 1" clearance on each side for my rig. You must have been sweating bullets.

Limits for vehicle width may be that, but the driving lane must be wider.

I've been through a few like that. As I entered the impossibility narrow lane the noise was deafening. No not the noise from me hitting anything, but the noise from my copilot screaming. I wish she would learn to shut her eyes like I do

Thanks for the information. We will adjust our route a bit and miss that area.

You wouldn't have any reason to use the I-74 bridge unless you were a local and had to or if there were some service right there that you absolutely had to use. The I-74 bridge crosses the Mississippi River right in the center of the Davenport metro area. If you are traveling through the area you would use I-80 or I-280. Both cross the Mississippi River outside of the urban area. Both I-80 and I-280 are bypasses.
