Awful RV campground locations

I live in western Louisiana and small RV campgrounds are fairly common many of which cater to the long term residents, still I have to wonder what some people are thinking when they build these "rv parks". As chance would have it a sign for a new one popped along my daily commute a few days ago, so I decided to check it out yesterday. It is about 1/2 mile off a 2 lane secondary highway, around a couple of sharp corners down a little pot hole filled country road through a cluster of old mobile homes, I say cluster because community is too strong of word, instead this little road has a series of small 1-3 acre lots along it and 9 out of 10 contain OLD mobile homes of one type or another along with barns and other structures. Think 2 tone 1970's brown mobile homes with half of an old work truck in the yard. Now it appears that someone has taken one of these small plots of land sandwiched between 2 old ran down mobile homes and converted it into a "RV park" by squeezing in a dozen or so back in gravel RV sites and hookups that look so rough that I would not chance turning into the driveway without a 4 wheel drive truck.

They have given this place a name that brings about thoughts of wild life and running water, and have a facebook page with patriotic imagery and a photo of a business card price list showing their contact information and rates at $20 per night or $250 per month. They even have a couple of 5 star reviews, and a welcome statement about having 30 and 50 amp hookups and an invitation to come stay with them as long as you like and hopes of filling up the "rv park" quickly. Of course there are no photos of the actual "rv park"

Now I know different people are looking for different things, but as a builder if you are going to go to the expense of putting in gravel and full hookups, why not at least pick a plot of land that is not surrounded by ran down 30-40 year old mobile homes.

Thanks for the funny post....yes, I'll agree but if you think about it, we live in an area where there are good neighborhoods and bad ones, they are all together. The example you give makes people refer to us as "trailer trash" sometimes but at least the folks "running" the rv park in question are supplying a place for affordable housing. Out here (Ca.) rents for spaces usually run anywhere from $500 to $800 a month...some of them are not so good.

Boy do I agree with you. We full time in a 45' rig and after looking at some sites you realize the owner has taken creative writing class. The sad thing is you see these type of rv parks all over the country. We do not go anywhere that the park is not proud enough to post pictures. Google earth is my best friend.

Enjoy your travels. There are nice places just have to look hard to find them.

Red face

to each his own....

we have seen MANY rv parks, campgrounds, resorts, overnighters, city and county parks, full timer 'parks', private rv sites, and church and big box store parking lots in our extensive travels...

some cater to us 'uppity' RVrs, with pools, shuffle board, hot tubs, meeting places, cable tv, free wifi, etc...

some cater to those who just want a place to live in their RV, either while they work in the area, while they are retired, or just because it's in their town and it's a low cost alternative to renting or owning their own land...

some cater to 'weekenders' who want to 'camp', ride bikes, walk, have campfires, etc...

some cater to those who want to be more 'off grid' and really consider themselves true 'campers'...(that's a discussion in itself)

etc, etc, etc... and any 'rv park' or 'campground' will eventually fill with those who are comfortable with it's amenities, location, price, or 'neighborhood' feel... regardless of how the rest of us feel about it.

Perhaps, but I still don't see it, for the nature lovers there is a nicer comparatively priced (well maybe a little higher) RV park a couple of miles away from this location that is usually half empty, one that has actual flowing water, nature trails and fishing. This site is also 20-40 miles from where most of the contract workers around here actually want to be, so they are not a prime market either, and as to affordable housing, this in an area where one can still get a non-subsidized 1 bedroom apartment for under $500 per month in an apartment complex with amenities like a swimming pool and laundry room in a reasonably good area. What places like this "rv park" seem to attract are the druggies that get kicked out of everywhere else living in old FEMA trailers and paying their rent week to week.

The name is Deer Creek RV park and it is east of DeRidder off Hwy 26 I just tried looking it up on google maps / streetview and they both show a vacant lot in its location.

There are many internet sites that will give you good ratings on places to stay. RVParky (an app) and RVparksreview.com are a couple that I use. Pretty good for the most part.

Like everything else no one is going to say we have a big RV park, but boy is it a dump, and talk about potholes. They will simply state what they physically have. BTW if I'm looking at a park and they don't have pictures, I move down the list.
