Bad experience at Yellowstone KOA

We arrived today at the Yellowstone KOA. Got everything out and ready and just wanted to relax from driving. Went to access the wifi, the access point nearest us didn't work. I could see full bars but could not connect to it.

I called the office and reached Steve (manager). He told me all the excuses about it being my phones problem and my settings. Also he has trouble blasting wifi through pine trees. Weird, I just connected at the office to a different access point and it worked. He told me that he's only going to say this once, "if wifi is that important to me and I don't want to drive to the office to use my phone, I should probably move on and leave."

I have not been able to find another open park so here I am, writing to you from it'd office.

I'd find another park if you're in this area.

It was nice of him to give you an option.

IMO the fact you are getting full bars but no connection means the connection point has a problem. While you can connect to it the point is not connected to the internet.

Maybe the manager has had a bad day (no excuse) and is not thinking about the problem. Mostly ready with the excuses instead of the solution.

It was nice for that option. If I could have found something else, I'd be long gone. Even said full refund. I'm sure I won't give KOA (anywhere) any more of my money. And at $83 and some change a night, I expected better.

Your thought was my thought. Instead of offering to even "look into it" to make me happy, jumped ship right to the, well you could move on. Reading Google reviews, it's not the first time he's been this way.

Phone service, and therefore WiFi service in the Yellowstone area is spotty at best. The KOA is a large park, and if many guests are on the internet there will be a limited bandwidth. (whatever that means). I found the Yellowstone West KOA to be a fantastic RV park. The grounds were spotless, the sites large, our preferred spot had a lovely bench, table, and adult wooden double swing. The restaurant was nice, the people very helpful, and they had entertainment for the grandchildren. I would and often recommend the West Yellowstone KOA in my posts and to friends. We plan to visit again in a couple of years. WiFi is not why we RV. The WiFi at most parks not located in cities is poor to very poor to horrible, therefore we travel with a hot-spot to keep in touch on the internet. Anyway, I recommend Yellowstone West KOA to anyone heading that way. Grizzly KOA is also lovely, but it doesn't have an indoor heated pool...I sort of like that amenity.
Happy Trails.

Since learning I can use my smart phone as a Hot Spot I no longer use the park wifi.

We used Verizon's JetPack for our internet. We never relied on the park's WiFi.

Sounds like a note to corporate thanking them for their hostile manager would be appropriate. Even if the park is a franchise, it's the KOA name and brand he's tarnished. Would be interested in their response back to you.

If you put it on a credit card, dispute the charge. You didn't get what you paid for and the KOA was aware of that fact.

I believe I'd check my neighbors and see if they are having the same issues with the wifi

Which Yellowstone KOA did you stay at? There are two.

West Yellowstone, Montana Campground | Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA

Or

West Yellowstone, Montana Campground | Yellowstone Park / West Entrance KOA

They are within a couple of miles of each other. Wife and I stayed at the West Entrance KOA and had a great time.
