Bakersfield CA - good places to overnight?

I will be making a few trips from San Diego to Morgan Hill and back - Bakersfield is about half way between. Looking for experiences with over-nighting near Bakersfield.

Flying J, Walmart, Camping World, others?

Thx
Vince

I'm not positive, but I think Camping World closes their gates after hours. Across the street from Camping World is Bakersfield RV resort...very nice park.

Depending upon your route (coming up I-5 to 99 or hwy 58 to 99), the only Walmart is out on the north side of Bakersfield off of 99. All others are away from the freeways. The Pilot/Flying J is also out on the north side of Bakersfield off of 99, but I'm sure the noise from all the trucks coming and going all night would not make it a very desirable place to overnight.

If coming up on 58, Orange Grove Rv Park is out on the east side of Bakersfield away from the city and freeway. Very nice place to stay.

Hope this helps

Ron

In that case then, and if you really want to stay at Bakersfield, I would stay at Bakersfield Resort. Easy to get to and like I said...right across the street from CW. Take the 99 exit off of I5 and then turn left (north) on Panama and right at the first light on Wible. Both the resort and CW is about a 1/2 mile down.

Getting back on the I5 just turn right (the way you came in) coming out of the park on Wible and then right on Panama. It will go back out to I5 (about 5 miles).

We have stayed at the Walmart on the 58 a number of times when we have been heading north. There are a number of nice places to eat within walking distance, which makes it nice. Right where you park is the Roadhouse Grill. It is around two miles west of the 99. Also called the Rosedale Hwy.

I would take 101 from Morgan Hill to LA and then I 5 to San Diego. The last time I went over the Grapevine it made the Baha 1000 look like a skating rink.

A big thumbs up for Bakersfield RV Resort. It's perhaps the nicest RV resorts we stayed at in our 5 years of RVing. We stayed there April 2013 and was about $35. We would rate it a 10 out of 10.

We have enjoyed staying at the Orange Grove RV in Bakersfield several times, really a nice park: Bakersfield RV Park and Resort – bring your motorhome and enjoy!
