Banff In Early/Mid April?

Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to read my message. My girlfriend and I will be taking our 2008 Monaco Monarch (32ft total class A) from Indiana to Alaska in a 2-3 month long trip. As you can tell from my title we plan on hitting BC/Alberta around mid April as our jobs start in Alaska in May.

How is Banff this time of year? I did a quick search on the weather and it seems as though there is still a little bit of snow. Is a 32 ft class A too large to take up to Banff in your personal opinion? Have you traveled in Banff during this time of year? Also, we are on a strict budget. Do we have the option in Banff to pull off to the side of the road and "dry camp"?

We have taken both the Alcan and the Cassiar in the past and looking for a little bit of a different trip up this time. Thanks!

There is no access to any side roads or camping allowed in the National Park except in designated campsites. They start taking reservations April 1. There are still areas closed until May in the area:

Banff National Park: Winter Closures - TripAdvisor

Unlike many U.S. National Parks, Canada doesn't seem to have National Forests or USDA lands outside the park that allows multiple uses. If you do a Google search of the Banff area for campgrounds, little shows up except the NP.

April will be a little iffy weather wise traveling the Ice Fields Parkway. My self when we we've driven up to AK., we always hit Jasper & Banff on the way back. The size of your coach won't be any problem.

We were there in mid April a few years ago and the weather was mostly sunny in the 40s. We found it comfortable. We enjoyed Jasper more. Icefields Parkway was closed one day due to snow, but the next day roads were fine.

Were planning a 2016 Alaska trip and plan to hit Jasper on the return trip. Unless it is a mild spring and the road is clear the first week of June, then might do it on the way up.
