Beaver Lake Campground Custer SD

My wife and i plan to do one of our Bucket List events next year and head west for Sturgis SD in August. We plan to stay at Beaver Lake Campground which is 60 miles south of Sturgis..

We want quiet times so being in Sturgis is not the right thing to do...

Question is has anyone stayed there? Is it nice...how dusty does it get? Shade...

Any comments or suggestions for another place would be helpful..

We stayed at Custers Gulch www.custersculch.com. Owners and workcampers couldn't be nicer. Sites were very large and reasonable.
Did not use the facilities so I can't give you an honest evulation there.
I know you are going to see Sturgis, but be sure to spend some time in Custer as well as Deadwood. Great area!
Will stay there next time we are in the area.

Have a blast !

Do you have any photos of the place while you were there?

I did not take pix of the campground but I have many from the area. SD and Custer is a great destination. Any particular place you would like some pix?

Well we are looking for a nice campground..we will be pulling a 16 ft enclosed motorcycle trailer behind and we will need plenty of space...level or close to site is important...we are also looking for one with shade also...early August can be quite warm...I understand that evenings there can be cool because of the elevation..

August in South Dakota you will see anything from 105 to 35 degree. Sun shine to hail. And all that in 24 hours if not faster. If go through badlands park expect hot n more hot always vehicles overheating. Custer is beautiful area if riding at night be careful of animals. Even during day bison are fast people are stupid I'm just gonna walk over here and take this big beast picture there slow I will out run them. NOT.
have fun it's a hoot 21st year 2013.

Well we will be ready...We have ridden all over the east coast on our Harleys...but wife had a kidney transplant this summer and cannot ride that far on my bike or her Fatboy from PA...so we bought a nice RV and plan to use it to get there and then ride the bikes..

We weren't too happy at Beaver Lake. We spend a fair amount of time on the internet, their service is not good. In august campground will be dusty, we were there in June and it was dusty. Not sure your trailer will be close to your unit, I don't remember any sites that both would fit on.

If we return to Custer, a stay at Custers Gulch is in order, or possibly Rafter J in Hill City.
