Any body been to the Bentsen Palm RV Resort in Mission, Tx? Looks like a good spot for winter.

We spent a few weeks a few years ago
Would have liked to stay longer but was all booked up.
One of the better places we have stayed, lots of amenities.
Very neat and tidy.
Border patrol was high profile but felt no issues.
If we went back to the area we would try them again.

We stayed one winter at Retama Village which is next door to Bentsen Palm. Very nice area and we really enjoyed it. State park and birding center just a block down the road. Away from traffic and noise. Gated. Luxurious landscaping. Nice sized sites.

An alternative is to lease a site from an site owner in Retama Village. Runs around $600/mo peak season as I recall.

Its a great location and a well run operation, but its frequently booked full a year in advance.

I agree. We were going to try Bentsen Palm and it was booked full. That's when I ran across Retama Village next door. So we leased a site from a site owner (all sites in Retama Village are individually owned). For the amenities, it is a very good deal. Retama Village is a lot nicer than Bentsen Palm.

It is a very nice park, but if it is full look at the Martin Valley Ranchs. They are all owned lots, but many are for rent. Some have casitas and other amenities. The Parks have rec halls, pools and an activity director. Rents will run from ~$300 and up depending on duration. A golf course is right next door. Howling Trails owned by the Lajoya School District.

Hidden Valley, Leisure Valley, Restful Valley and Pleasant Valley
You should be able to find info on Google. or send me a PM

FWIW - all the Retama sites are booked unless you can reserve for the whole 4 month season (some Mozynski sites may be available). We reserved Jan-Feb at Bentsen Palms a few weeks ago, and there were still many sites available, both pull-through and back-in. From the website, it looks like you can reserve for whatever time frame you wish.

We spent a week or so in July traveling around the RGV scoping out RV RESORTS (we wanted the options for pools and activities) for a two month(Jan-Feb) stay. We saw a dozen or so resorts, most of which indicated that we could probably find short-term sites at any time because the number of winter Texans is slowing down. FWIW: Retama Village was our first choice but we could not get a short term rental. Bentsen Palm was our second choice. There are dozens of other acceptable resorts. We spent a day at Victoria Palms but you can hear the freeway noise all the time. LLano Grande should have a few shorter term rentals, and was very nice. Bentsen Grove Resort is a few miles up the road from Retama/Bentsen Palm, and is very nice though a little dated. Monthly rates were from about $600 to $900 (Bentsen Palm is on the upper end). LLano Grande may have the most intensive list of activities. For the money, Bentsen Grove may be the best value if you like activities ($560-$620/ mo including elec. and cable TV), but DW didn't like the aroma of Febreeze that permeated the assembly hall...

Nice summary! You've really done your homework. I like Llano Grande Lake as a third choice behind Retama Village and Bentsen Palm Village. I see that Bentsen Palm Village is now selling off lots to individual owners.

I'm wondering if the old guard that filled up the RGV every winter isn't slowing down and the new generation of sunseeking baby boomers is now spread out from Southern California to Florida. There is definitely a lot of competition for the "Snowbird" dollar!
