Best place in TN, KY, NC for fall colors

Will be attending a Heartland Rally in Nashville from 16-18 Oct, then next planned stop is in Jacksonville, Fl for Thanksgiving, so the gives us a month to take in the fall colors. Where would be the best places to go in Eastern TN, Western NC, or Southeastern KY? Obviously Smokies, but that is a large area and I assume that by the time we get there the top of the Smokies will be already past prime colors. Was also thinking about stopping in the Cumberland Gap area. Any recommendations?

THIS MAP will give you the 2015 color predictions. Slide the bar to see the changes.

Peak for WTN/ENC isn't usually until the end of Oct (refer to chart). I'd suggest Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge TN or Asheville NC targeted for then. Make reservations though as showing up at a CG on the fly this time of year in that area they'll likely be "no vacancy" on weekends.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

Lori-

I have seen a few other "fall color" maps before, but not this one. Thanks, an excellent one that I have already bookmarked.

The Smokies are a popular and crowded place to see the fall colors. We live in the area and like the less well known Cherohala Skyway.
