Bethpage Camp-Resort, Urbanna, VA

Over the past 6 years we have come to Bethpage. It is a very big campground with a lot of amenities for the entire family. We didn't make it up last year but got here last Sunday for a weeks stay.

I was a bit disappointed when we arrived to find the site I was directed to was basically a mud pit. It had rained but not that much. I noticed there were some sites around me that had gravel on them. I asked to get moved to one of them and after some checking, I was given a gravel covered site.

However, today we were blessed with a thunderstorm around noon. I've seen a lot harder rainfall and for a lot longer but, couldn't believe my eyes when my wife opened the door and said, "WE'RE FLOODED!" Sure enough, we had about 2" of water surrounding us. 3 1/2 hours later - still flooded!

I hate to say it but over the week I have found signs that this campground is becoming run down and not being afforded the attention it use to. Many sites around are mud holes and flooded. Placing a little gravel in them isn't going to fix the problem. Many of the sites up front are going to need to be paved. I hope they fix this place....

We had a rally there a couple of years ago and when it rained one day it was obvious a LOT of rain would be a problem. Very low lying and shade does not let it dry out. With the rain we have had along the entire US coast it is not surprising however. How did you like the area? We sorta found it lacking in local interest stuff. I did find the grave site of "Chesty" Puller, the ideal Marine and Medal of Honor winner at Christ Church.

In all fairness, they had a lot of rain this season but, they still need some major improvements to the grounds. It's not like they haven't made their money on the place. They are closed in the off-season and they should consider improvements then.

We like the Northern Neck actually. Plenty of small water towns and steeped in the heart of Native American history.
