Considering a trip from MA to VA during APril school vacation week. I've narrowed it down to either Cherrystone or Bethpage. Any comments on either??

Cherrystone would definately be my choice between the two.

We stayed at Bethpage this past year, and I must say, we were not impressed. The "super sites" are very narrow. When we opened our street side slideouts, we were literally over the patio area of our neighbors. There are a ton of permanent sites, but this does not bother us like it may some people. We have not stayed at Cherrystone, but I have not heard anything negative about it. Best of luck.

Why not come to VA Beach? There is a lot more to do here...esp. for kids. Great campground at Holiday Travel park just 5 min. from the beach. They even offer FREE parking at the beach for those who are staying there. You are also just about an hour from Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. Just a thought.

I would agree with Glenda about Va Beach. I have been to both Bethpage and Cherrystone. I do prefer Bethpage but go for the regular sites. They are 50'X100'. With children Holiday Travel Park would be my first choice.

The Holiday Trav-L-Park is one of the nicest campgrounds that we visit. The super sites are incredible! It's almost like you're in another campground alltogether. We love VA Beach.

Our family loves Cherrystone; my husband lived there during the summers with his grandparents when he was a kid.

If it's during rainy season, sometimes the area in front of the store gets too wet, but the last time we were there it looked like they had filled in a lot of low spots.

My biggest beef with the place is that they nickle-and-dime you. I honestly don't know why it's labeled a "family" campground when you get charged for your kids.

The kicker was one October they tried to charge me a $4 nightly surcharge for heat.

I argued with the girl that we had propane, so didn't use their electricity for heat. She argued that we "could" have an electric heater, and thus the surcharge.

We've only been back once since...

If you go to VA Beach, DO NOT USE THE KOA. I was there a few years ago, 1st week in July and the power was going off and on all day & night. I management said it was the campers fault for using outdoor lights on the awnings. People paid extra for AC kabins and asked for a refund and was told you have lights don't you. It looks nice but the power was never upgraded and management was very rude to the point he left the park.

Would also second the recommendation of Holiday Trav-L Park in Virginia Beach....

If you're up for a treat, they even have a new section of "super sites" which are larger sites with a paved pad...
They're a little more expensive and towards the back of the campground but they do have their own pool as well.

I was born and raised in Virginia Beach and have watched the deterioration of the KOA across the street happening over the years... I WOULD NOT stay there if it was the last campground on Earth.... It's AWFUL.

Holiday Trav-L Park offers a shuttle service or you can park your car in their satellite parking lot which is over the Rudee Inlet Bridge and closer to the beach and more populated tourist area.

I would also recommend the Surf Rider Restaurant on Laskin Road or Rudees's Restaurant on Winston Salem Road...
These restaurants are long time favorites of us locals...

Many people frequent the "Captain George's Seafood Buffet" on Laskin Road, but it's basically pre-frozen seafood which was trucked in, thawed and placed on the buffet.... Better than NO seafood, but opt for the fresh stuff.

Unless they've trucked in a LOT of fill, Cherrystone becomes a virtual mudhole when it rains....
While Bethpage is a nice place, it does get really crowded there....

Even the "regular sites" at Holiday Trav-L are larger than either Cherrystone or Bethpage.

Holidat Travel Park in Va Beach also has my vote. They know how to treat their guests.
