beware this florida campground

this past weekend (labor day weekend) we had reservations at Emerald Beach RV Park in Navarre, Fl. Due to the tropical storm we knew tropical storm warnings would be in place by saturday morning ,(and they were) so we decided not to make the trip. THIS PARK REQUIRED PREPAYMENT OF ALL THREE (3) DAYS . so I called to request a refund of the days (2) when the warnings were in effect ; the lady there in a not so nice tone said "there are no refunds , we don't care what the weather is".
I don't know if florida has any regulations concerning this ' but I just wanted to inform readers about this park and their policies.

Maybe she knew you were the #1 fan of Alabama.

I hear people do some strange things this time of year down in the land of the SEC.

Not defending them, but their cancellation policy reads "Any holiday/special event weekend requires a 3 day minimum stay and requires a 1 month cancellation notice."

We stayed there for a couple of nights in early June and will stay there again, but I will make sure I check their cancellation policy!

If that's the policy then that's what it is. You can choose not to stay there again.

Read and understand the policy just like with anything you buy. It's a contract you agreed to.

How did you pay your deposit? If by credit card, just protest the charge with your credit card company. Explain what happened and see if they can use some leverage to get your money refunded.

Send them a letter, This will go to someone higher up the food chain one hopes.

If you do not get response, send a second copy.. .. To the state's attorney general, with a cover letter. You won't get any money this way,, but the campground won't like it.

Also if you belong to FMCA, GOOD SAMS, Escapees or any other camping orgination, Drop a letter or E-mail on their "Action Line" type department.

Hi all,

Well no matter what I don't think anyone in a service industry should ever be nasty or rude, to there customers! I also feel that if the area was in a state of emergency, or evacuation, or folks were being told to stay out of the area, that you should get a refund! However if this was not the case, I think the campground then has the right to enforce there refund policy! Ihave been at a few campgrounds that have it posted that there are no refunds for bad weather! Also if I was running the campground I would have offered you a chance to come back for another stay with in one year at no additional charge! Just my 2 cents worth!

Remember All: LIVE, LAUGH & ENJOY !!!

don't think they had much in their policy about tropical storms or hurricanes, but I might have missed that part . guess I need to check the 30 day storm/hurricane outlook before my next trip . But with a little common sense they could have made an offer such as Al posted (use of site at a later date) but they didn't . already have my letters on the way to good sams and florida attorney general.

How many ways are there available to give the phone number to that campground? Do every one of them have the capability of providing the policy? Not everyone uses a campground website to make a reservation.

I personally think they should refund your money due to the circumstances, but that is just my personal opinion.

Google search on this phrase:

campgrounds in navarre fl

In the findings you will see a small item for that campground with an address and a phone number. If they did not state to you the policy when you called them, you may have some defense with your CC holder. I doubt if you will get anything from the CG if you mention this. Just requireing prepayment without stating their policy on no refund would be another defense.

Good luck to you. People need to stand up to what they believe is right, even just morally right.

In all fairness.......rules are rules.....and I can understand a 30 day cancellation notice in campgrounds that have a limited season.....like in the north east for example. But in Florida....their season is a full year and should have a better policy.

I think the c/c dispute advice is your best bet.....if any.

Good luck
