Big Hart Campground

Getting ready to head south toward Florida in a couple of weeks. Thinking about spending a few day at the Big Hart Campground on Lake Strom Thurman close to Thomson, Ga. Anyone ever stay there, it's a corp of engineers park? Wondering any sights close that would make interesting
riding, etc?

Ok, will give my impression of this COE park. It is a long way from anywhere. We came down I-26 from Tennessee to Clinton, Sc and took hwy 72 over to 221 and then to a couple of more two lane decent roads into Georgia. Total drive time from Baileyton, Tn about 6 hrs with a stop for lunch and a couple of detours(DW fault). We arrived to find our reservation slip taped to the window of the gate house. So we went to our lot, it was not as described and was down in a low spot. Went ahead and got the rig set up for the night. Got up this morning and found a better spot, on the water with possible satellite service. There is no internet and very limited phone service in the park(5 milesw from the park no problems). Actually sitting here on the point we are on, I am able to get very limited cell and hot spot. But it comes and goes and I wouldn't want to get in the middle of a long email or doing business from here. On a scale of 1-10(1 being worse and 10 being outstanding). I would give the park a 6, mainly because of location and the facilities are not in the best of condition due to quality of water(well),etc. Only elect and water on site, dumping station at entrance. But if a person is looking for quiet and peaceful surroundings, then this would be the place to come. There are a total of 5 rigs in the whole park. Hosts are great and helpful. Grocery stores, drug stores, etc about 6 miles or so up road.
