We have stayed at campgrounds in Biloxi for years. Are any of them still in business after Katrina? I know the area was devastated. What is the situation and how long will it be before they can reopen?

As far as I know there are no campgrounds open now. If there are they are full of construction workers. Who knows how long it will take to reopen, as you said the area is devastated. You can not imagine how bad just from the news pics. The area needs the money, but IMO you need to stay away this year at least. I live in gulf shores and it took a good year just to begin to remove the debris from Ivan, never mind the construction that is now going on.
regards,
Joe

Fred and Kathy, you will not be able to find a place for some time that is not taken up by FEMA, workers or displaced residents.

I have been over to that area a bunch of times since Katrina. (Working on the family house in Pass Christian) What campgrounds that ARE useable are full. In fact my "Home park" in Pass Christian has ben taken over by FEMA and is filled to the brim.

Like the post Joe posted, you will not have a good trip to the area for quite some time. You just cannot imagine the devistation to the area. It amazes me each time I venture to an area I have not seen on a previous trip to the area since the storm. I remember what it looked like after Camille. Katrina made Camille look like a "Small fry" as far as damage to the area....

Also if your retired Military and you were plaining on camping at any of the Military RV site along the Gulf coast in Biloxi & Gulf port,Miss you may want to call because from what Ive been hearing the Military campgrounds have been taking over by displaced Military Family's at both Keesler AFB and the Gulfport Naval Construction Battalion(Sea Bee's)base.
